Default Questions about baptism

Hello everyone!

I'm going to be baptised and confirmed into the Catholic Church this Easter and I'm looking forward to it

This might seem like an odd question - but what does being baptised involve physically?

Will I have to wear special clothes? Will I have to be fully immersed in water?

I ask this because I saw in a film an adult being baptised and he had to sit in like a child's inflatable pool. Does it vary per country? I'm in the UK.

This is something that you need to ask your priest or RCIA Leader.

Some places they immerse, others they pour.

It's a good question.

The early church did it both ways as well.

Where I am from they just stand in the front of the church with your head over the baptismal font and get water poured on you, and there is not special clothes. I know babies get a white bib. Some churches might have you wear a white gown like the servers wear. I would say to just ask your priest.

Thank you both. I know one of the topics we discuss at RCIA is baptism and confirmation, might be tonight or tomorrow night so might discuss it then. I was just asking if there was a specific rule or not, but as there isn't I guess I'll have to wait until either we cover the topic anyway or ask someone tonight.

i was baptized yesterday!! at our church, there is a baptismal font... i was told just to wear appropriate clothes.. our fr is very sweet, gave me a pamphlet everyone else had, that he read the ceremony from.. , pointed out to me where i had to respond. at one point he told me to bow my head over the font and he poured maybe a cup of holy water over my head, then gave me a towel to wipe off the excess. my hair was hanging over my face wet, LOL.. then he put the chrism oil on my head too....
we will have our confirmation and first communion on saturday. me, maybe a few other adults, and a 100 third graders!!!
hope that helps!!

Hi everyone!

I spoke to my RCIA leader and they said I just have to stand over the font and have it poured over my head. I will then be confirmed immediately after the other baptisms.

They jokingly said I had to be fully immersed at first

Anyway, they said I may be given a shawl to wear as part of the ceremony but didn't have to buy one myself as I can borrow the Church's, and as to what to wear I'm still unsure. I suppose something formal but not too dressy.
