Unfortunately, we can't modify our screen names, probably because changing them would create problems with the database.
However, members do occasionally abandon an account simply so they can use an different name. I can think of only two disadvantages to doing. Your user rank drops back to the very beginning, and having a tiny mail box and no avatar is a loss. Plus, a new name means it can be difficult for other people to know or remember your previous name, in case they read your older posts (or want to do so.)
