Default Is homosexuality worse than any other sin?

I've ben reading over these forums for quite a long time now. I was wondering if there is any proof that suggested homosexuality was worse than any other sin?

it is one of the four sins that "cries out to heaven for vengeance" if that is the passage you are thinking of.

I was asking about homosexuality, not sodomy.

The topic is summarized in the CCC 2331... (http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/...hpt2art6.shtml). I think the only significant distinction is whether willful homosexual activity is grave and objectively sinful. It seems unlikely to be the worst sin against God, but I'm not sure that will be much consolation to those suffering from its eternal consequences.

As Pope Benedict said, "...although the particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin, it is a more or less strong tendency ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil; and thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder."

Same sex attracted people are called to chastity (like single heterosexuals, married couples practicing NFP, separated married, divorced, widowed).

Why would you need to prove that..? The church does'nt claim that. I would think that a serial killer would be worse... But then again, the serial killer has devoted his life to his sin (living a double life in order to conceal his torturous yearnings), which is similar to some homosexuals who classify themselves by their sin, then base their lives aroiund it.

So I guess the real question is whether someone who bases most of their life aroiund planning and upholdijng their sin, is the worst or not... I think it is because one is denying the holy spirit and every grace God offers them. Yes, it is very sinful.... To live a spiteful life towards God.

But I thought all sins were equal in the eyes of God. If this was true wouldn't 95% ( http://www.guttmacher.org/media/nr/2.../19/index.html ) of Americans be suffering from the eternal consequences?

Being a homosexual in itself is not a sin. Homosexual acts are sinful. If you're looking for a heirarchy of sin, I am not sure such a thing exists, but what we need to worry about is mortal sin versus venial sin, and homosexual acts are definitely mortal sins.

only if they acknowledge their sins as sinful and then work towards never acting on them again. Something most of the active homosexuales wont do. From what I have seen and heard active homosexuals want to prarade their sin around and want all of the world to see it as good.

The most powerful weapon to conquer the Devil is humility. For as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it.

To clarify, because the word "homosexual" has different meanings in society as compared to the Catholic Church's definition.

Society tends to label all same sex attracted people as homosexuals. Whether or not they are actively participating in homosexual acts.

The Church doesn't do that; when a same sex attracted person practices chastity, they are avoiding homosexual acts. A person who practices chastity, develops the ability to stop viewing men or woman as objects for sexual activity.

Why would you think that?

Is premediated murder of an innocent person equal to the necessary killing of person who attacks intending serious bodily harm?

Sodomy is a sin that cries to Heaven. Homosexuality is contrary to natural law. We hate the sin, not the sinner. The homosexual is called to a life of chastity and prayer.

Why would God put that kind of a burden on somebody though? I think we can agree that sexual orientation can't be controlled.

I presume the opening poster spoke of homoxexual sexual relations, not simply being a homosexual, which is no sin. Homosexual sexual relations would be a mortal sin, though I would think there are worse acts, such as killing your parents, cursing God, and rape. St. Thomas Aquinas compared homosexual acts to cannabilism, by the way, which is henious, but still there are worse sins even than killing and eating someone.

Sexual acts can be controlled (mastrubation, pornography, sexual acts outside of marriage.)

Single heterosexuals, same sex attracted persons, couples practicing NFP, handicapped or ill married couples, divorced, married separated are all capable of the practice of chastity.
