Default How long does it take for a question to get answered?

Just wondering... I posted a few questions several months ago and got answers right away... I posted a question that was actually important yesterday and it's still not up for people to answer...

Some never get answered.

If you post a question, it stays visible only a short while. It's either that, or you haven't been here long enough to post questions.

I think this is a fair question. Just tell us. Should we no longer expect an answer after three days, a week? The question really isn't about impatience at all.

A lot of it would depend upon where you are asking your question. If you talking about this particular forum, the speed of an answer will depend on the work load of the moderators

If you are talking about the Ask An Apologist forum, the answer is more complicated. This thread, however, may have valuable information for you.

And if you are talking about a question which is asked in the general forums, well, its simply a matter of another member taking an interest in the topic. As long as it isn't too obscure, someone will usually post on it within hours.

Agree w/ Dale, it totally depends what situation you're talking about. Need more information to be able to answer the question.

I think an earlier answer given by Jim Blackburn, a staff apologist for Catholic Answers, may be helpful.

Quote:

So, “serious sins” is to be understood “grave sins”.

Keep in mind that for a sin to be mortal (serious), three conditions must be met: grave matter, full knowledge, and complete consent (cf. CCC 1858). A sin of grave matter which lacks either of the other conditions in not a mortal (serious) sin but rather a venial sin. In such a case the matter is grave but the sin is not. The catechism explains, “One commits venial sin… when he disobeys the moral law in a grave matter, but without full knowledge or without complete consent” (CCC 1862).

Agree with this one too.
And also the one "some questions were not being answered."

This is a question that has plagued me for more than two months. At least I think it's been two months. Quite honestly, it's been so long since the last time I asked my question (for the third time) that I've lost track of time. But after three asks, I'm not asking any more.

Matthew, since your questions don't show up in your post count, I am assuming you have asked your questions in the Ask An Apologist forum.

Earlier in this thread, I mentioned another thread which explained how the Ask An Apologist forum worked. I will quote a key portion of it:

What this can mean, much to our regret, is that staff apologists may not have much time to devote to answering questions in the AAA forum. There are three means though by which members can get their unanswered questions answered:

The AAA Docents: The bulk of questions in the AAA question queue have already been answered at one time or another by the staff apologist. Our AAA Docents help the staff apologists by searching for and posting links to answer questions that have already been answered. This assures that more questions are answered than would otherwise be the case.

The General Forums: Many of our members are fine amateur apologists. A question that goes unanswered by the staff apologists can be reposted in one of the general forums where members may take up the question for discussion.

Catholic Answers' Office: Staff apologists answer one-hundred-percent of the questions that are phoned into our office and left on a staff apologist's voice mail -- which helps to explain some of the duties that take up the apologists' time and prevent them from answering all AAA forum questions. If your question goes unanswered in the AAA forum and if you, for whatever reason, do not wish to ask the question of fellow CAF members, you may contact Catholic Answers directly with your question.

Thanks Dale. I guess I'll just have to learn to be patient. I did post the first time in the forum but the next two times to Ask an Apologist.

I can wait as long as I know that it will eventurally be answered. I just had a debate going on with a fundamentalist that is now on hold. The question is not one I would put out to amateurs because, much to my surprise, there are logical explanations for both sides of the question. I know them all. I want the 'official' Catholic response, so asking amateur apologists would just create a post of all the explanations I've already heard - which is why I'm not mentioning my question here.

I did check the forums for an answer before asking, just so you know.

Again, Dale, thanks for the info.

:Matthew.

Lord give me patience and please hurry.
