Default two trees in the Garden of Eden?

Are there two trees in the Garden of Eden? Genesis 2:9 it says in the garden is the tree of life, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

EWTN is reairing Jeff Cavin's Scripture series "The Great Adventure". He was talking about Genesis 2 and Revelation 2 & 22 this week. The tree of knowledge and the Tree of Life.

Bookend texts - one tree at the start of humanity and the other Tree at His Second Coming.

Adam and Eve's tree of knowledge was death. Jesus died upon a tree and He became the Tree of Life for us.

Freedom put to the test

396 God created man in his image and established him in his friendship. A spiritual creature, man can live this friendship only in free submission to God. The prohibition against eating "of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" spells this out: "for in the day that you eat of it, you shall die."276 The "tree of the knowledge of good and evil"277 symbolically evokes the insurmountable limits that man, being a creature, must freely recognize and respect with trust. Man is dependent on his Creator, and subject to the laws of creation and to the moral norms that govern the use of freedom.

276 Gen 2:17.
277 Gen 2:17.

USCCB

Out of the ground the LORD God made various trees grow that were delightful to look at and good for food, with the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.

The LORD God gave man this order: "You are free to eat from any of the trees of the garden except the tree of knowledge of good and bad. From that tree you shall not eat; the moment you eat from it you are surely doomed to die."

Revelation 22

The USCCB also ties in Scripture from Ezekiel

Because it's a garden, obviously there were a lot of trees!

But yes. The early chapters of Genesis focuses on two particular trees in the Garden:
And Yhwh Elohim caused to sprout from the ground every tree desirable of sight and good for food, and the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
And after man and woman ate the fruit of the latter tree, God notes that:
And Yhwh Elohim said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, as to the knowledge of good and evil; and now, lest he send forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever––" And Yhwh Elohim sent him forth from the garden of Eden to serve the ground from which he had been taken...

Genesis 1:11 And God said, "Let the earth put forth vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, upon the earth."

As the above verse shows, there were many trees put there as sources of physical food/nourishment.

But there were 2 trees (the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil). whose "fruit" was not meant for ordinary physical nourishment; their purpose went beyond the ordinary.

EWTN programming titles and program explanations on DISH are an absolute mess this month - April 2011.

I'm basically recording anything that is an hour long or it has an odd sounding title (EWTN Cinema, or was once listed under Catechism or Fr. Corapi.

Right now Jeff has two programs running on EWTN. One is his "The Great Adventure" and the other is his and Scott Hahn's series called "Our Father's Plan."

The clips that contained the "two tree" explanation from Genesis came both from Scott Hahn in "Our Father's Plan" and from Jeff in his "Great Adventure".

I did see on the program schedule that "Footprints of God" with Stephen Ray is coming back on (Monday April 18 at 3:30 Eastern & Wed April 20 at 5 p.m. Eastern). Both programs are 2 hours in length.

Br. Bob Fishman has 4 programs on the Jewish Roots of Catholicism 4/18, 4/19, 4/20, 4/21.

And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken

it wasn't something i'd thought of but i seen this somewhere maybe in this forum and it suggests the reason we were banished from Eden wasn't for eating the fruit of good and evil but in case we should eat of the tree of life. After all we couldn't be trusted now.
