Default Byzantine Missal

Does anyone know of a place to get a copy of the Byzantine Daily Missal from then-Fr. Raya in 1958?

Thanks!!

I started that thread too. The Byzantine Missal and the BDW are two different things, thats why I included specifics about the Missal.

Thanks though!!

I've never heard or come across a Missal done by Kyr (Archbishop) Raya. Are you referring to the translation of the Divine Liturgy that he did along with Baron Jose deVink? If that's what you're refering to then it's available from Madonna House Publications and Eastern Christian Publications. The Eparchy of Newton uses a more or less revised edition of Kyr Raya's DL translation. Primarily they changed such phrases as "humankind" and "every human being" simply to "mankind". I'm almost 50 - 50 on whether I think that's an improvement or not. On the surface it certainly seems like an improvement because Kyr Raya's translation sounds like it's trying to use inclusive language. But the more you read his translation, especially when read in continuity with his other writings, the more you realize he's not trying to use inclusive language at all, but merely bringing out certain emphases of the Greek texts. But I digress.

Perhaps you're referring to the translations of the Gospel and Apostol that Kyr Raya did, again in conjunction with Baron Jose deVink. If those are what you are looking for then good luck. They are almost as difficult to come by as the BDW, and almost as expensive when you do come across them.

No its the Byzantine Missal. Plain and simple title, but it is a little known work of his that I have seen in libraries but rarely for sale.

The "Byzantine Missal" you are talking about is owned (copyright) by the Ruthenians. Kyr Raya did a bit of work for them in the 1960s when they were getting into English.......they will not reprint or sell the copyright.

Actually as you can not find a copy to purchase it might just mean that.

I'm curious to know just what exactly are the contents of the Byzantine Missal by Kyr Raya. I too would be interested in finding a copy if at all possible. Kyr Raya is one of my personal heroes.

Phillip,

I was able to get the Missal from a different source so you can try and get it from Ciero. I love the litrugical work of His Grace Raya and Baron Vinck. These men truly knew what it is to breath with both lungs.

Ciero,

If you are still interested in getting rid of your Byzantine Missal I would be interested in obtaining a copy. Could we possibly work out a deal? I understand if you want to hold on to it.
