Just Wichita, unless you want small town.
I always push Koch Industries, they are HQ in Wichita.

Lincoln, NE and Wichita, KS if you are going to put children in Catholic schools (and money is an issue) because they are virtually free and solid. I have a friend who pays about $350 a year for Catholic high school in Lincoln because the bishop wants everyone to have a Catholic education. Compare that to $6,000 in Texas where I live per year for Catholic high school. (which I hear is cheap compared to some diocese) Also, there are several Latin Masses in Lincoln plus the FSSP seminary.

Re: Where in the US are orthodox diocese with lots of young families and good catholic schools?
well, I think you should look at not only the diocese but other factors as well. I know from experience that living in an area where nobody shares your values is stressful and even sometimes painful. Texas is a nice place to live. Most of the anglican use parishes are here in Texas, and we have a perpetual source of new catholics from Mexico. We also have tons of east asian churches. The Vietnamese practically dominate our seminary in Houston.
You could also do what I did and start going to an eastern rite parish. They're small and eager to get new people, but you often run into "closet Orthodoxy", sort of like the protestantization of the western rite we've been seeing here, but that's not usually a problem with the maronites, who don't have a schismatic counterpart.

Re: Where in the US are orthodox diocese with lots of young families and good catholic schools?
I live in the Arlington diocese. It's a big area (basically half of VA) with many different types of area within it. Closer to DC is obviously more urban and the cost of living is higher. There are pockets of areas that are not super-safe, but nothing like an inner city. Farther out from the city, is more suburban into rural. Depending on where in that area you live, you must have a car for transportation. Employement may be more scarce, and driving into the areas with more jobs can take a huge chunk of the commuter's day.
I am very blessed to live about where 3 parishes come together, so we have extensive choices in church activites and Mass times. We are very involved in our parish, but it is nice to have the choice of 5 different daily Masses, and special liturgies celebrated by the other parishes.

Re: Where in the US are orthodox diocese with lots of young families and good catholic schools?
Denver would not be a bad choice at all. I live in Colorado Springs, so I'm not the best judge of Denver, but Archbishop Chaput is a VERY good man and VERY orthodox. My dad has said, and I agree 100% that Chaput is going to be the first American pope. To give you an example, last year he was late to a men's conference in the Springs because he was calling senators and other congressmen trying to get them to vote against Obamacare. He got a pretty loud applause for that. I also know that they have some very vibrant parishes and good schools there as well. Colorado Springs is OK, but it needs a lot of work. I go to the only Catholic high school here, and it really needs help. I hope this helps!

Re: Where in the US are orthodox diocese with lots of young families and good catholic schools?
If you like Virginia, mountians, a decent cost of living, good public and/or good Catholic Schools - Roanoke, VA has some of the best to offer. While it is more baptist, the community is great. Most areas are safe, a great area to raise a family, pick from about 4 parishes in a 15 mile radius, or a Maronite Catholic church. There are quite a few young families in the parish I attend. - I swear there is a baptism every other week of a baby!
Cost of living is cheaper than Northern VA, DC area. Plus it is so beautiful, and many hiking trails, lakes, and other free family entertainment in the area. There is a festival almost every weekend in the city from a strawberry, various ethinic, and for the adults there is a microbrew festival. Dickens of a Christmas is a great time where most of downtown is closed to traffic, carriage rides, and the 1800s feel comes to life, and lots of family friendly entertainment
But what I know from the parishes, some are more liberal than the others, but people go! - Of course you have the Easter, Christmas ones that show up twice a year)
The Catholic School does teach everything there, and I believe attending Mass is nearly required to attend, and has beautiful view of the city from where they are located downtown by St. Andrews (built in the 1880s)
Anyhow thats my 2 cents on this!
What can I say, I try to be a good ambassador for my area.

Southeast Indiana and Cincinnati are nice Catholic areas. One priest I talked to called the town of Batesville, Indiana a "Catholic Mayberry."

Re: Where in the US are orthodox diocese with lots of young families and good catholic schools?
I always say my neighborhood (Macalester/Groveland) in St. Paul, MN is a "Catholic Mayberry." There are 5 K-8 Catholic schools within a couple of miles of my house, a co-ed Catholic High School in the neighborhood, and a boys Catholic High School and a girls Catholic High School about 10 minutes away. I heard our Priest describe our congregation as "devout St. Paul Catholics." We have 24 hour Perpertual Adoration and our school has almost 800 students. I love it here .

I forgot to add that my neighborhood also includes a Catholic university for women and a co-ed Catholic university, and a seminary. Some folks in my area go Catholic K- graduate school without ever leaving a 4 mile radius. It's amazing, and then they stay here and send their children to the same schools. There is a very rooted culture of Catholicism.

Re: Where in the US are orthodox diocese with lots of young families and good catholic schools?
We live almost on the border between the Diocese of Lansing and the Archdiocese of Detroit and are really happy there. In relation to your criteria, there are good Catholic schools (probably some of the only ones I'd consider sending our future kids to), I know of a parish about 30-45 minutes away that has weekly latin masses and one 10 minutes away that does a once-monthly latin mass. Both bishops are wonderfully orthodox, and many (most?) priests are as well. I hear of very few orthodoxy issues here. And the two parishes I attend most often have MANY young families.
And... as you know, with our recession, cost of living in Michigan (especially of buying houses) isn't so bad. You just need to find a job...
I hope you find a place for your family.

Francis X. DiLorenzo is a good Bishop and the Dioceses that he runs, is from the coast to most of western VA. Only part he doesn't have under his Diocese is Northern VA.
But he did cancel going to the rite of election i was in about 2 years ago and sent someone in his place

Re: Where in the US are orthodox diocese with lots of young families and good catholic schools?
I am happy to recommend the Diocese of Lincoln, if you can stomach the idea of living in Nebraska and can find a job.
Orthodox Bishop: Bruskewitz. Need I say more? It's true that he is retiring, but as he worked very closely with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican years ago, I'm fairly confident that we'll get another orthodox bishop. The people are praying for it diligently, and it's the first intention at every Mass.
Perpetual Adoration: Depends on the parish, but at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, they have had perpetual adoration without a break for more than 50 years.
Latin Mass: Yep, we've got them. And a seminary for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, too, so you can go to Latin Mass daily in Lincoln & Denton for sure.
Great Catholic schools that teach the catechism: Yes, in most communities. And it's cheap - we pay $700 per year to send our 3 kids to the parish school. That's seven hundred per year, not per month. Bishop Bruskewitz is all about good education, with his background.
Low crime rate: Yep.
Affordable housing: It's probably a lot more affordable than what you'll see in VA. My sister lives there and paid $720k for a 1,500 sq. foot ranch. I paid $150k for a 2,100 sq. ft. brick craftsman house.
Downsides: higher taxes (fewer people, longer stretches of highway and electrical lines), high underemployment, not close to your family. But we promise to love you like our own. ;-)

Re: Where in the US are orthodox diocese with lots of young families and good catholic schools?
Way late for a reply... But as for an individual church St Johns in Front Royal, VA is one of the finest I know of. We also have Christendom College, and several national catholic ministries centered here in Front Royal. Economy is excellent and weather very moderate while still possessing four seasons. Front Royal is also a gateway to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley & Blue Ridge Mountain areas.
PS (I share your concerns about the status of the church members,... and bishops, which is why I felt compelled to become Orthodox instead.)

Somewhere Catholics actually practice. It would be nice if the crime rate was low and there was a low cost of living and affordable housing. A bonus would be nice weather! I was looking at Arlington but it's expensive to buy a nice home there. In Richmond the crime is high. What about Chesepeke Va area? Are there any Catholic schools there? Are there many Catholics in Va? I like Va because of the weather and it's a tad closer to my extended family in NY. Where else would everyone recommend?

Thread is somewhat Old so you may have moved already.
Come to St. Mary's (yes, THE SAINT MARY) County Maryland. We have been blessed with very orthodox priests. I happen to know that 7 of the 20 or so seminarians in D.C. now have come from southern Maryland! (One happens to be my son). We have some great Catholic homeschool groups as well as some great Catholic schools (St. John's in Hollywood, MD http://www.stjohnsparishhollywood.or...ation/SJS.aspx)
We are the county where the FIRST Catholic Mass was celebrated in the "New World" by Fr. Andrew White. Instead of a Baptist Church on every corner, you'll find Catholic.
Great Seafood too!
Also for Work, I work for J.F. Taylor, Inc Family Owned (Catholic) Engineering company. We specialize in flight simulation and aircraft systems. We are located near the US Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD. Many job opprtunities!
We are also rural. Lots of farms but 1.5 hours from D.C. That could be good or bad depending on what you care for
