Default Famous people that go to YOUR Church?

Any famous people at YOUR Church?

Need not be CELEBRITY status or internationally known, but just even local people that are famous. (ie mayor, city councilmen, local musicians with a decent following, small-time actors, etc.)

At my Church we have Freddie Martinez. He's something of a local legend. He's a record-producer and has his own company Freddie Records. On his own time he plays trumpet, piano, trombone, guitar, and a few others I think. He also sometimes sings in the Choir at bigger Masses such as Easter, Christmas, etc. He's involved with almost every music festival that rolls through town. He's known in alot of the surrounding areas too (like Rockport, Port Aransas, Port Ayers, Robstown, Alice, Driscoll).

Four-time Olympic medal-winner Hayley Wickenheiser lives in our parish. (Female hockey champion.)

I'm not sure where she actually attends Mass, though.

I often see the Attorney General of our state at Mass.

When I was a small child, we lived on Long Island (New York), and saw Perry Como at Mass every Sunday. Are you too young to know him? He was a famous singer with a soft, gentle, crooning voice. I loved him.

My previous parish, before moving to another state, was St Elizabeth Anne Seton's parish. I'd say she's pretty famous in Catholicism.

I've heard that the owner of a big league sports team was a parishioner at my parish, but with me not being much of a sports fan, I couldn't tell you much more than that.

we used to belong to the parish in which Madonna grew up.

Some local politicians and notables, since we are in a county seat, but if I did know names I would not publish them. Freddy Fender has a star in the Tejano music walk of fame in our town, however.

DD belonged to Joe Paterno's parish when they lived in State College.

Two professional baseball players were members of my parish once upon a time.

When I was a kid, I attended the same parish and Catholic school as a boy who grew up to be a Space Shuttle Commander. He was a grade ahead of me.

We have a LGBT activist employed by the local public high school at our church. She is famous but not very popular in some circles.

It's been a few years, but the late, great +Ron Carey (who played Officer Levitt on "Barney Miller" back in the '70's) attended the Saturday evening vigil Mass at Christ the King Church in Los Angeles; I lived nearby and served as a lector there for about a year, so got to meet and chat with him.

He was a nice guy - very friendly, and always whispered a joke to the procession as we were passing by his pew, in an attempt to crack up the priest!

Oh, oh! All those sports people reminded me that John Harbaugh, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, is also a parishioner in a parish I sometimes attend. I haven't seen him there; I think they have Mass celebrated at the Ravens' complex on Sundays during the season.

Interestings for sure, but oh my the "celebraties" in God's eyes.... probably some who no one would ever suspect don't you think! I'm really a bit tired of the celebrity view of people... Just my take.

A lot of the people who are on my local city's council attend my parish. Since members of the council take turns as mayor that means the mayor has frequently been a parish member.

A few years ago there was a rumor that Leonardo DiCaprio would visit our Church when in the area. (Supposedly he had some relative who lived nearby.) I've never known anyone who could confirm that rumor but it was interesting how there was a temporary increase in Mass attendance by teenage and twenty-something women.

At my previous parish Sparky Anderson, former Cincinnati Reds manager, was a parishioner. Back when the Dallas Cowboys used to hold their training camp in that town, Roger Staubach and other Catholic players would attend Mass at that parish. My friend remembers being quite embarrassed the time that her mother leaned over and asked Mr. Staubach to autograph a missalette. While he was actually a member of a neighboring parish,Jim Caviezel would often attend daily Mass at that parish. My mother would often see him there. She and her friends would joke that Jesus attended their Church.

why is she employed by a highschool?
or is she an employee that just "happens" to be an LGBT?

If I wanted to, I bet I could come up with a 4-letter acronym...

There is an attorney in my parish, not very well liked in my circles as he mostly does criminal defense. He is always at Mass and contributes to the Church. I found out a few years ago that the man was one of the founders of LULAC in our region. He and a couple others, including our retired deacon were primarily responsible for ending a lot or abuse in our local industry against hispanic workers. It is quite an inspiring story. What really impressed me is when I talked to him once about retirement (he is getting up there) and found out he can't really afford to retire. He has done so much pro bono work for those who can not pay that he has not taken care of his own finances.
