Default Ellen G White False Prophet?

This anti-catholic woman is incorrect in just about everything, but do we have the right to call her a 'false Prophet'? Or is that simply uncharitable?

You know I heard one time that she prophesied(back in the 19th century) a thawing in relations between the Catholic Church and the Protestant(broadly speaking) organizations. Even if she was a false prophet(being that she was out of step with the Church and the Holy See)in general, it doesn't mean that all of her predictions were wrong. I would just focus on staying in line with the Church and warning others about her. What she was or wasn't will become manifest in due time.

Anyone can predict something like that though. It's like me saying 'I predict that there will be another tsunami'.

Let us call a spade a spade...and be truthful about it....is she was a false prophet, let it be so, there is no hiding the fact....be we should be charitable about it though.

Just because she predicted something that turned out later to have occurred doesn't mean it came from the Divine. It could have come from the devil. Recalling what I read in The Rite...one way an exorcist discerns possession by an evil spirit is the knowing of the unknown. And this was also shown in the movie version, if you watched it.

The exorcist asked a trainee to place an object in a bag. While conducting the exorcism, the exorcist asks what is in the bag...and the object is correctly named by the possessed.

It would help if you were informed. Ellen G. White was deceived.

i can`t vouch that Ellen G White personally prophesied the above; but if she did, her motive was skewed......
Back in the early 1970s, i came across an SDA book titled "Time Running Out", by Arthur S Maxwell, a well known SDA promoter. It was full of the usual SDA "just around the corner" language. In a chapter titled "Reviving A Once-Dead Church", Maxwell had no hesitation in branding the Catholic Church as THE BEAST. The IMAGE OF THE BEAST would be the greater part of Protestantism, which would not unite with Rome, but which would certainly become favourably disposed towards Rome.
Knowing the venomous rantings of EG White, i bet Maxwell was just repeating what she, and other assorted anti-Catholics (have) claimed.

Being deceived (Do you really think she was, post-Miller?) is one thing: outright lying is something else. Claiming that one of the Pope`s titles is "Vicar of the Son of God", "Vicarius Filii Dei" in Latin, is a blatant lie. It just happens that the Latin letters add up to 666; and while no Pope has ever claimed that title, why let Truth stand in the way of religious gutter press sensationalism?
EG White was in it up to the proverbial hilt.

In our Lord`s day, His enrmies condemned whatever He did.

"I also saw that Old Jerusalem would never be built up."
Early Writings Pg 75.
Hmmm, looks to me like Old Jerusalem has been built up.
One false prophecy makes a false prophet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs White said she would be alive when Jesus returns...
"Soon our eyes were drawn to the East, for a small black cloud had
appeared, about half as large as a man's hand, which we all knew was the
sign of the Son of Man...we were changed and caught up together with
them to meet the Lord in the air."
Early Writings pg 15-16.
Hmmm, the Lord has not returned. Is Mrs White still alive?
One false prophecy makes a false prophet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs White said in May of 1856 that some of those listening to her will live
to see the return of Jesus...
Some of those that were attending a meeting with her would become food
for worms, and some would live to become subjects of the seven last
plagues, and some others would "remain upon the earth to be translated
at the coming of Jesus."
Testimonies for the Church, vol 1, pg 131-132.
Hmmm, that statement was made over 140 years ago. Has Jesus come yet?
Are any of those at that 1856 meeting still alive?

Great happenings were to come to fruition at the end of the 2300 days,
which was in October of 1844. What were these great events? Why did they
not happen?
The Great Controversy, pg 421-422
One false prophecy makes a false prophet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Satan is to bear our sins..
"As the priest, in removing the sins from the sanctuary, confessed them
upon the scapegoat, so Christ will place those sins upon Satan..."
The Great Controversy, Pg 422, 485-486
Hmmm, I thought Christ bore our sins...

"So also was Christ offered once to TAKE AWAY THE SINS OF MANY."
Hebrews 9:28.

I have not watched the movie. Interesting.

Back to the point, wasn't Ellen G White one of the founders of the Seventh Day Adventists?

I remember reading Chick comics when I was young. They have a very good way of turning people against Catholics and the Church. Somehow I resisted the "need" of evangelizing Catholics, I think it was fear. Now of course I know better.

Well let me say this someone tried to donate some of her writings to the parish library that I take care of and I lost no time in getting them out of there selling them at the half price bookstore and then buying something that was more appropriate for a Catholic Library of course I have not seen the people who donated them since our former priest who was very liberal left and was replaced with a priest who follows the magisterium of the church.

Actually, I could see them doing quite a bit of good in a Catholic parish's library. So long as they came with a disclaimer to be used for apologetic work only (how can one refute and disprove something they know nothing about?) and if any questions arise or any doubts form, to contact the parish priest or their spiritual advisor.

The parish I attend has a very extensive library, full of wonderful works. I could see a good deal of fruit coming from placing a few selected works arguing against Catholicism in a special section. But once again, with a notice informing one must be careful when reading.
