There's hope for America's future yet!

Play of the day! Selfless young fan returns ball to upset boy
There's hope for America's future yet!
In one of the most heartwarming scenes you'll ever see, a young Arizona Diamondbacks fan named Ian made Wednesday's play of the day at Chase Field after an even younger fan named Nicholas missed a ball thrown his way by Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks(notes).
Though the dropped ball was instead handed to Ian by another person, he immediately recognized what he had to do after seeing Nicholas in a distraught state after botching an attempt at a souvenir. With an amazed audience looking on, Ian marched back down the stairs and graciously handed the baseball over to Nicholas, a Brewers fan, without any prodding from anyone else.
As Deadspin notes, "if this doesn't warm your heart, you're awful."

Well, I guess I am.

As with Wednesday's post about the pouty Giants fan, I suspect there will be a lot of misguided people taking aim at the younger fan and his immediate sulking after missing out on the ball. That sort of criticism is ridiculous, of course, because you can hardly expect a child of that age to have control of his emotions or any perspective beyond that exciting — and ultimately, disappointing —moment.

Geez, the Brewers kid should get the ball just cuz he was ready to cry. Hey, maybe next time it he had gotten a ball fair and square it might have meant something to him.
Probably an only child (or little brother) who's been whining his whole life.

I was about to agree with your only child speculation and then I saw, "little brother."

I am sorry but I totally disagree, it is not like the younger boy was demanding the ball, he was sad and in his sadness he cried, which is what little boys do. I am very happy to see that the older boy decided in his generosity to let the younger boy keep the ball. What a beautiful scene.

The most powerful weapon to conquer the Devil is humility. For as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it.

Have you no charity in your soul? . Please lighten up a little, it's a sweet story about a kind and generous kid making a very young kid's day, cheer up! Life is hard, and I'm sure this kid will become disillusioned and hardened up plenty in due time, why not let him keep his innocence and joy a little longer?
I'll ask you this: what would Jesus do? Do you think he'd give the kid the ball, or say "Suck it up junior, life's hard, get a helmet!"? I think the answer is obvious.

Sometimes it is so easy to make a kids day and how often it is passed up because it is looked at as unimportant.
