It's a sin to believe in horoscopes

I don't think it's a sin to read it for fun

The horoscopes are usually so general that they do not make a lot of sense.

No it is not a sin to read a horoscope but it is a sin to believe in them and to act upon the information.

The reason that they are a problem is that they seek to tell what only God knows about our future. It is tampering with the unknown.

Personally, I read horoscopes whenever I need a good laugh.

And yes, believing them is a sin. Reading them for laughs? I doubt it.

I especially like Lisa's answer! Why get in the pool with the Devil? Read the comic section instead!

God Bless!

I heard about a professor who asked his students what signs they were, then carefully passed out horoscope readings to them and asked them to read them privately. The students all agreed their horoscopes fit them. Then the professor revealed that he had given the same, identical reading to everyone in the class.

For a good laugh, listen to Weird Al's "Horoscope for Today."

The woman also claims to be a clairvoyant. I suggest that you stay away from something like that.

It is true that there are people with the gift of what is called clairvoyancy. There is a gift that is given by God, but it is not a gift that is for sale. It is sinful to attempt to use the gift that someone possesses to try and control one's future. This was the sin of king Saul who preceded David as king of Israel.

It is not a sin to have the knowledge that is given by God. However it is sinful to use that knowledge for profit.

There have been times when I have been given the gift. On one of those occasions I had no idea that what I wrote was going to be so accurate to the point that my grandmother who was near 99 at the time was about to die. Not only did I receive the knowledge of her impending death, I was given a gift of Scripture to keep and cherish at the same time. It was roughly two months later that I was given a further gift of knowledge concerning a situation that had developed on the international scene. That knowledge was an occasion for joy for me personally, and what I learned has been fulfilled, as the East Timorese have been allowed to rebuild their lives.

I could go as far as saying that even as I mourn for my sister, who died suddenly, I knew that it was probable that she would be the next family member to die, but I had no idea that it would be so soon or so quick.

The kind of knowledge that I am describing is a gift from God and I no longer fear the source of that knowledge, neither do I fear those thoughts when they come to me. However, a person who claims to be a clairvoyant for profit is using something that has more than likely come from an opposite source. That kind of thing must be avoided at all costs. It is sinful to follow up with a clairvoyant.

i read the comic section usually after the "opinion line" which are short anonymous comments you can enter by telephone or web.

then maybe back to editorials and smile at the; some are so serious and childish, and others try to be fair but can't. Some good news once in a while. Lotsa bad news like prophecy is being fulfilled.

The Lord is my Shepherd there is nothing i shall want.

Peace,
Alan

Whoa, stay away from that stuff! It will lead you completely away from God and Truth.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, "All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone" (CCC 2116).

Also, read this tract from Catholic Answers on consulting horoscopes, etc: http://www.catholic.com/library/Astrology.asp

Yes.
See the reference from the Catechism above.
See also Deut 18:10 and Jeremiah 29:8, which CCC 2116 footnotes.
It may seem just like harmless fun, but it gives the devil a foothold.

When someone asks me what my sign is, I reply, the sign of the cross. If they press the issue, I simply say that I'm Catholic and I don't believe in Astrology. But I've known a few "good" Catholics who seem to follow their horrorscopes (Misspelled intentionally). How would you approach them?

If you read them like a fortune cookie and think no more of them it should not be a sin.

IF you are really into them as some folks are, then it probably is a sin.
