Default Ever heard of the-Emerging Church???

I call the Emerging Church=Catholic lite for baptists lol... I mean a lot of young adult baptists are hungry for the Eucharist and the Cross and things like that-things that their mega-churches don't have....

So maybe they're on their way Home to Mother Church??? Or what do you think?

p.s. how can we help them get over their fear of Mary? I think that's the biggest barrier that they have....

It is one of three Protestant movements

The third wave
Emergent Church
The Mega Church/Saddleback movement cannot recall the name

Reformed guys think each is a heresy

So true

I used to be reformed and I remember how my friends were constantly railing against the emerging church, and rob bell, etc. I've never heard of the third wave, though.

Make sure you're really grounded in your faith first. I am a recent convert and I am still involved with the BSM, because I've been going there for years, and because our BSM is a Catholic-friendly organization and I am pretty confident in my faith. But if you go and they start trying to convert you or whatever, get out asap.

On the issue of Mary..To me the best way of helping non-Catholics with Mary is this:
  • Learn as much as you can about her and her true position in the church as taught in the catechism and other official church documents. I say this because some people do tend to be very devoted, even zealous, in their devotion to the Holy Mother and inadvertently give the wrong impression to others.
  • Make sure that those you talk to understand that praying to Mary and the saints if optional. It is highly recommended by the Church, but it is a private devotion and if a catholic feels uncomfortable with it, they do not have to do it.
  • If they ask about the rosary, be prepared to walk them through how truly biblical it is.
  • Lastly, reassure them that Mary, our mother, does not desire that we worship her. That her desire is ONLY to lead us to her son.

Peace
James

BSM = Baptist Student Ministry. I've been teaching conversational English there for international students for the past three years. I've also been involved with Bible studies there.

The Calvinism of today is not the Calvinism of Calvin. He would probably be appalled at the state of modern protestantism, and of modern "Calvinist" teachings.

Calvanism is comming back strong now especially among young adults today....

Now I thought about becomming Lutheran before, but then I said-nah.... too much division there between ELCA and LCMS..... and all that stuff. I guess I wanted to be Catholic lite but it's like Lutheran churches only meet once a week and that's it.....

But Southern Baptists really are not calvnisitic too much....

Wait a minute... perhaps I am misinterpreting what you are saying, but are you considering leaving the Church for the Southern Baptist Church?

It sounds as though you might be drawn toward the more charismatic elements of the Church. Have you looked into that? Are there charismatic Catholics in your area?

Peace
