Talking Re: what ORDER?

Definitely the Franciscans, I work at a soup kitchen with a group of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in Bradford, England!

I still need to learn more about these (so I will have to wait to vote) but I find the topic most interesting. Thanks for it.

I wish I was able to choose two. I love both the Franciscans and Dominicans but voted Dominicans because of their great Marian spirituality. I used to be drawn most to the Carmelites, but discovered that I was only interested in the exterior. It was not the right spirituality for me. I became convinced that the Dominicans fit me better since I believe in finding Truth and preaching the Gospel. I am very interested in the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word in Birmingham, AL who combine both Franciscan and Dominican spiritualities into one. They live the Rule of St. Francis, but have many Dominican rituals as well. They were founded by a former Nashville Dominican who is the blood sister of Mother Assumpta of the Ann Arbor Dominicans (also a former Nashie).

I would have liked to be able to vote for 2, as well.

Is anyone here able to give a brief definition/explanation/characterization of each?

I've always wanted to understand them and never found the right source.

Thanks!

I was disappointed to not find the Cistercian Order on here. I love their austerity and simplicity.

I withheld my vote because of that reason. But after the Cistercian spirituality, I find the Carmelite Order refreshing. I never felt drawn to active orders, and feel like I can relate more to the contemplative side of things.

God bless.

SERVITE ORDER! Servants of Mary! No mention of us?

We are one of the original 13th century mendicant orders, still going strong all over the world.

The only Order founded by 7 men rather than an individual. Feast day of the Seven Holy Founders is Feb 17.

Our charisms are: Marian Inspiration, Fraternity, Charitable Service...

The Servite Family includes Friars, Cloistered Nuns, Active Sisters, Secular Order (not a third order, we have our own Rule of Life, etc.) Secular Institute, Diakonia, Confraternity... you name it!

Have a look: http://www.servite.org/index.htm http://www.servite.org/secserv.htm

Peace and blessings to all,
Mary Teresa, OSSM

I choose the great order of the Diocese. Orders are wonderful but the shortage of Priests is so felt in the Parish's across the globe.

I belong to the Servite Community at the National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, (The Grotto) Portland, OR.

Some of our Friars celebrate Mass at some of the local parishes due to the need.

"In our commitment of service, the figure of Mary at the feet of the Cross shall be our model. Since the Son of Man is still being crucified in his brothers and sisters, we, Servants of his mother, wish to be with her at the foot of those countless crosses in order to bring comfort and redemptive co-operation.”

Exactly not to discount order and the importance of them. This is a poll which relies on personal preference.
We have Oblates of SFD help with weekend Masses, I wish I were a Priest so I could help them all. I cannot imagine a greater honor then being a Priest...God willing someday, I will be.
