Yes, she did actually put it on her list... She's tired of having to lift the one at the store and put it in the van... And everything here is old and filthy since we have slobby kids too. You got kids? You got mess. Unless you have a maid, near as I can tell.
So tons to do this week getting ready for the big weekend party DW is having. Well, so far only 4 RSVPs so may not be big, but the prep work is the same. Decorate, decorate, clean, clean and clean some more...

Re: The Longest Conversation Thread Vol LII
Hi everyone, the end of term is in sight. All the reports have been written, checked and approved for printing - the printing office is having some problems, but nothing I can do about that, someone else's headache.
"8 sleeps" until I fly home, all that is still left to do is sort out the hire of a car in my city of arrival, finish the shopping (some clothes for the grandchildren, the diary DD and I traditionally swap, some fancy sweets, including, I hope some candy canes - we get sticks at home, not canes and that would be fun to take with me) pack my suitcase and tidy the apartment.
Last Friday granddaughter phoned me (with help, of course) to tell me: 15 sleeps till I get there; she was going to clean the house for me and pick some flowers for me; and that she was sick. Quite right on the sick part, by the middle of last weekend all three children had tonsillitis and DD had strep throat.

Yes, the free government health care is far cheaper than the stuff we have to get... But wait! It's not free... WE pay for it. But on the other side of the coin... my mother is getting pretty good use out of it... Not sure how we get out of this particular cycle.
|
Yes, I get quite angry to pay nearly $500 each month for my own private insurance and then find out that my tax money is paying for other people to get free, better insurance.
As I've said before, I don't know what the solution is, but there's got to be something the gov't can do differently.

We usually rent one of those Rug Doctor things from the store every year too. I also hate lifting it and thinking about the other houses it's been in. *shudder*
I've actually thought of getting a bunch of those plastic squares that you put under your office chair and lining the floor with them. We already have one under my son's dining area at the dining table. I'd love to get laminate flooring or something but I've decided that we're not changing anything until the kids are older... or moved out.

How exciting that you only have 8 sleeps to go!
I hope the kids are all feeling better. That's tough on mom to be sick too. One of my earliest memories is sitting on my bathroom counter and patting my mom's back while she was rinsing her mouth out after being sick. Everyone in the house was sick except me. I was the youngest too. I remember feeling sorry for her but being really grossed out too.

Yes, that is what we get. Now that I've had this one piddle on the floor and loose all the detergent out of it, I think I need to rethink the whole thing... It works great as a wet vac, but I'm less than impressed with the cleaning so far. Will be doing the carpet tonight. That will be the final exam.
Yes, I know the plastic square thing... Have it near the desk. One section almost worn out. Well, it IS worn out...just have not spent the money to get a new one. At one point we put plastic over the kids chair seats as they were using the cloth as a napkin!
I'm with you. I'll get nice stuff once the kids are gone... I hope the stuff we have will last that long.
Now to go decorate the house with lights... Was lousy weather last weekend. But rain might come our way tonight or tomorrow. Hope so!

Maybe you got a defective one. I hope it worked better on the carpet!
Fortunately, our kitchen chairs are just wood, and a dark wood at that, so they just need to be wiped down every now and then.
Did you get your lights put up ok? My sister in law and her husband were about to leave their house one day last week but got held up by something, then on their way out, they noticed their Christmas lights were off. They walked around the house to check them out and found that their house was on fire. He (being the fire chief in town) put it out with the garden hose and got it all taken care of. It ended up just messing up a couple feet of their siding but Sis-in-law said she's done with Christmas lights from now on. How scary. Be careful with yours!

Re: The Longest Conversation Thread Vol LII
So we took our little guy to see a Speech Therapist yesterday. She said he scored above average for everything that she tested him on. He has a slight lisp on his S's because of an overbite but that can't be worked on until he stops sucking his thumb. She said when his permanent teeth came in, the lisp would probably go away.
My husband and I both had blood drawn so they can do more research on that Chromosome thing they found on our son. While we were there, the clinic was giving another set of parents orders for blood work. I wonder if we're part of some study. All I really care about right now is that they assured us we wouldn't have to pay $5000 each and that their office was funding that part. We're still waiting to find out how much of Christopher's blood work we're going to be liable for.
While we were in the "city" we managed to get our Christmas shopping done while being sneaky and passing Chris back and forth. I have 2 iTunes gift cards to buy for their stockings and a book for a gift exchange for Audrey's class and that's all. I still have quite a bit of wrapping though.

OH NO NO NO NO... NO HO HO HO yet! I've still got plenty to do before my "holiday" can start!
Interesting isn't it about how God somehow taps us on the shoulder when something is wrong... The fire IS scary... not sure what went wrong with the lights... they really aren't that dangerous...
We have one of those musical houses in our neighborhood this year. THe one where they decorate the house and the lights go on and off to the music they play on a limited FM station you can pick up in your car while you drive by... it's not like the one in Missouri but it's nice to see and hear.
The typical stressfulness around here. Getting things shopped for, kids making their own presents, In laws, travel prep, college prep. Sigh... How on Earth does anyone expect us to enjoy all this where there is SO much "preparation." Cleaning, cooking, cleaning, cooking, did I mention cleaning? Shopping is a respite compared to being at home with all the agonizing, whining and stress. Give me the parking lots and the crowds!

I don't know what happened to their lights either. Maybe their rat dog chewed on the wires. (I'm not a fan of little yappy dogs that wear sweaters)
I watched a show the other night that featured a bunch of those houses. There was one guy in Colorado I think that lives in a gated community and his neighbors got tired of it so they all voted to keep the gate closed and not let in people just to look at the lights. That year for Christmas, he didn't put any lights, he just put up a big inflatable Grinch. Ha ha ha. His Father in law let him continue his big display at his house. It looks like it would be awfuly expensive to do one of those. I'd like to see one sometime though.

I'm done... printer won't work for me anyway... and don't worry, Red, I won't submit a report to make you come down here and fix it. So I'm done here for the year... at least calling into the office and such. Woo Hoo! Now the real weight gain will commence!

Lucky dog! I hope your local IT guys get your printer going for you. I really hate printers.
I hear ya on the weight gain. I'll be sitting at home next week with all those leftover Christmas cookies.
31.5 hours left.
Oh, I guess I have a bit of good news. I've been told to get my resume ready. I have a chance at a promotion. I'll most likely be the only person in house that will apply for it, so hopefully not too many people from outside will apply. I'll have 11 years exp at our hospital under my belt. That should count for a LOT! It's typically a man's field though so I guess we'll see. I don't know when the actual job will be posted.

Re: The Longest Conversation Thread Vol LII
Audrey has her first basketball game tonight. I can't wait. I got the video camera all charged up. There are 12 kids on her team so I hope she gets to play at least a couple minutes.
These last two days are going to go so slow. Come ON Christmas!!! 15 hours of work left.

Re: The Longest Conversation Thread Vol LII
Well, 10 kids showed up to Audrey's game last night so the coach gave everyone a chance to play 2 quarters. They lost but the score was only 4 to 8. Audrey got to dribble a bit but she's got a few things to learn about guarding the ball. Pretty much anytime she would get it in her hands, an opposing player would just take it away.
And I'm down to 2 hours and 15 min left at work. It's been a pretty smooth day until a PC crashed just a bit ago. I'm waiting for it to get done installing some stuff. The user has gone home so she won't be able to test it out. I hope it will all be ok for her. She has a fair amount of "special" software.
