Are there any records in the lives of the Saints/Holy Scripture where God allows us to see how are loved ones react if we die?
Yet another 'corny' question but It got me wondering. One of my classmates died last week, and many personal thoughts went up inside my head "How will people react if I die?" "Can I come back and talk to my loved ones if I asked God?" Is it really possible for God to permit us to see our death and the reaction of our loved ones? I know many souls return appear to the living, but will god for example show us the reaction of those who we knew in our lives? Any passages, stories,or records in the Church?

Re: Are there any records in the lives of the Saints/Holy Scripture where God allows us to see how are loved ones react if we die?
Hi Chris,
I wonder about the same issue. I'm not even sure that the point of death brings us to heaven! Do we sleep until resurrection and judgement day?. Are we purified by fire in purgatory ( if it exists )?. The fact that Christ's close friend Lazarus died and was raised by him, makes me think that we are asleep in a spiritual sense. Would Christ recall someone from heaven back to the toils and troubles of mortal life? I don't think he would. The Catholic church has a wonderful epitaph for the dead... "Reqiescat in Pace." ...and this I believe is the state we reside in until the day of resurrection. Also; why would heaven expose us to the grief of our loved ones?
Death is indeed a mystery, but be sure to know that one day it will be revealed to us all.
Your Brother in Christ,
Richard.

I don't think I've ever heard anything about God allowing us to know e.g. the emotional responses of family members and friends. One thing I've heard several priests say is that God allows our relatives and friends to know when we pray for their souls. In particular, I've heard one or two priests say that the dead person is aware of how many people at their funeral are actually praying for them and how many are there just for social reasons.

Unfortunately I don't have a proper reference to either the Bible or other Church documents, it may be "just" a pious story or there may be references to it in the writings of the saints. I'm sure it must have some kind of foundation somewhere, just not sure where.

I read somewhere that a soul you pray for that's in Purgatory sees your face at the time you pray for them.
I also read somewhere that the souls in Heaven won't go on being miserable if a loved one goes to Hell -- just because they are in Heaven and happy forever. That's the impression I got. But just as the Blessed Virgin and Jesus suffer in a mystical way for our sins and sufferings, I would think something happens to them perhaps?

Salutations JoyfulLife,
the notion of the dead seeing our faces as we pray for their souls is a Beautiful idea to behold. Thank you for sharing it with us.
My Love, Blessings and Prayers to you.
Richard.

What a beautiful thing...!
