Angry Wedding program quotes

I am doing up out wedding program (wedding on the 9th)... We are looking for a good quote on marriage for the back of our program (eg. from a saint or something)..

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This one was suggested.. good.. but it didn;t seem religious enough for us:

The Art of Marriage

A good marriage must be created.
In the art of marriage the little things are the big things…
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say “I love you.”,
At least once a day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is having a mutual sense of values
And common objectives;
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in
the whole family.
It is speaking words of appreciation and
demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere
in which each can grow.
It is finding room for things of the spirit.
It is a common search for the good
and the beautiful.
It is not only marrying the right partner,
It is being the right partner.

Hello

I see you point, but having it read it has truth in it.

God Bless

I am getting married Aug 6 and I have been working on quotes also.

Here is what we are using:

"In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him." (1 Jn 4:9). Here is love at its source. Love is the gift of self. It means emptying oneself to reach out to others. In a certain sense, it means forgetting oneself for the good of others. Authentic human love reflects within itself the logic of the divine. In this perspective, the duty of conjugal fidelity can be fully grasped. "You are everhthing to me, I give myself totally to you, forever": this is the commitment that springs from the heart of every person who is sincerely in love.

-- John Paul II, Message to Married Couples, 25 September, 1993

Love is never something ready made, something merely 'given' to man and woman, it is always at the same time a 'task' which they are set. Love should be seen as something which in a sense never 'is' but is always only 'becoming', and what it becomes depends up on the contribution of both eprsons and the depth of their commitment.

-- John Paul II Love and Responsibility

The early church father Tertullian wrote, ‘How beautiful, then, the marriage of two Christians, two who are one in home, one in desire, one in the way of life they follow, one in the religion they practice … Nothing divides them either in flesh or in spirit … They pray together, they worship together, they fast together; instructing one another, encouraging one another, strengthening one another. Side by side they visit God’s church and partake of God’s banquet; side by side they face difficulties and persecution, share their consolations. They have no secrets from one another; they never shun each other’s company; they never bring sorrow to each other’s hearts … Seeing this, Christ rejoices. To such as these He gives His peace. Where there are two together, there also He is present.’

I just made the programs for my wedding, and I put this prayer for families in it:

Quote:
Lord, from You every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. Father, You are Love and Life.
Through Your Son, Jesus Christ, born of woman, and through the Holy Spirit, the fountain of divine charity, grant that every family on earth may become for each successive generation a true shrine of life and love.
Grant that Your grace may guide the thoughts and actions of husbands and wives for the good of their families and of all the families of the world.
Grant that the young may find in the family solid support for their human dignity and for their growth in truth and love.
Grant that love, strengthened by the grace of the sacrament of Marriage, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trials through which our families sometimes pass.
Through the intercession of the Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that the Church may fruitfully carry out her worldwide mission in the family and through the family.
We ask this of You, who are Life, Truth, and Love with the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
John Paul II

This is kind of a side issue to the actual question but my young friend (my daughter's best friend) is getting married on July 30 and her soon to be mil offered to make the programs so I have a question about this.

I am assuming that all of you are Catholic and are getting married at a Mass - what are the programs for? I don't remember having any for my wedding but that was 27 years ago. Are they handed out by the Ushers as they seat people? Just some ideas to help us in this Wedding (btw, my friends parents are not practicing Catholics - her dad is fallen away and her mom was a "cultural" Jew).

We used ours mostly to introduce the bridal party, but it did outline the readings and basic structure because my family is not Cathlic and didn't have any idea how the mass would go. We also had a short "thank you" to the guests for joining us and a list of our family and friends who had passed on but were very important to us that we wanted to include in some way. Hope that helps!

Programs are by no means a required element. They are anything from a one page sheet with the "who's who" of the wedding party, or a simple list of the order of the Mass, to a very detailed worship aid with all the readings, responses, etc, in it.

My program is the extended version. While we are both Catholics, I have non-Catholic family members (I'm a convert) and friends. So, we put together a worship aid that has all the parts of the Mass, all the specific parts of the Marriage Rite, when to kneel, sit, etc, an explanation of all the parts of the mass, as well as the normal wedding stuff that includes the names of the attendants, readers, etc.

We also included quotes and a map to the reception on the last page. Yes, the ushers will hand it out.
