Default Jesus, Mary, Apostles Ethnic Origin

SInce Jesus, Mary , and most of the rest would have been of the middleeastern area, why are they portrayed in pictures and many statues and art as caucasians? This has been bothering me for some time.

Only here and in Europe. Different cultures portray them different ways.

Here's one that's different.

This picture was computer generated using the Shroud of Turin as a starting point. It supposedly is what Jesus actually looked like.

I thought Semites were Caucasion. Jesus is only 50% Semite
Maybe the other 50% allows all races to view him as there own

Go to the National Shrine in DC and you'll see many depictions of Jesus and Mary as different nationalities. It's pretty neat. They have one of a Chinese mother and child, it's weird to picture Mary and Jesus like that. However, seeing them in your own "skin" helps others relate to them more.

There used to be an old song...it got played around Christmas. I am embarrassed to admit that I only remember the start: "Some children see Him lily white, the Baby Jesus, born that night", & then it went on to describe how children of all races see Baby Jesus as looking like them...
I think it's a way of making Him seem more like ourselves, when we picture Him looking like us. (I loved the pictures, too!)

Given the location of Israel, I like to think of Jesus as having been of all races. It is possible.
