Re: What's the last book you quit reading?
And, of course, one the drawbacks of the Kindle is if you don't like the book you can't toss it across the room. (Too often.)

Ah... proof that some books SHOULD be read in padded rooms!

I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson.
This is one of those books I meant to read years ago and I'm a fan of all three movie adaptations, but I just found the pacing and the prose really dull so I quit.

Re: What's the last book you quit reading?
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
by Douglas Adams
I couldn't stand this book.
Normally, I read everything cover-to-cover. I am anal about that.
And no matter how bad a book might be, I try to finish it.
This is the first and only book I have never finished reading. I made it about 1/4 of the way in, and came to the realization it is a complete waste of time. So rather than waste even more time finishing it, I threw it out and moved on to something else. Unfortunately, I will never get that wasted time back.

Re: What's the last book you quit reading?
About a quarter of the books in my library have a bookmark in them somewhere, set aside for "later". The latest to be so distinguished was a biography of Saint Benedict Joseph Labre by Father Antonio Maria Coltraro. It was written in 1807, in a style of wording and hagiography that I found difficult to connect with. I'll finish it later...

Might be "Go Down, Moses" by William Faulkner.
I'm trying to get through it.

Re: What's the last book you quit reading?
I often find myself putting down techno thrillers before I can finish. They bore me to tears, yet I cannot seem to get away from them. The last one was Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park. I liked the movie, so I thought I would like the book, but I did not.

Me too! I quit on page 223. I read Street Lawyer, loved it, and decided to try this one. Big mistake! I too disagree that Ron Williamson is innocent. It's been documented that he is seriously ill mentally. I don't think his account of the events that unfolded are unreliable, and I question why Grisham wants to defend him.

Agreed. In all my life I can only think of three books that I just couldn't bring myself to finish.

Re: What's the last book you quit reading?
Water for Elephants. It's not that I quit it, but I sort of lost the motivation to keep reading it. I like it, too, it's just that I have other books I should be reading for my classes. I might try to continue.

The Literal Exposition on Job by St. Thomas Aquinas. My spiritual director gave it to me to read, but it was too deep for my poor brain. We have since simplified.

A Suitable Boy by Vikam Seth. I think I made it to page 700, but after plowing through more than 40 pages to devoted to describing a pair of wedding shoes, I donated it to the library.

Re: What's the last book you quit reading?
I stopped reading the sword of truth series because it was by far the worst plot corrupted manuscript I have ever read.

Dare I ask how far into the series you dragged yourself? Did you get up to the book where Richard self-validates his right to kill a bunch of innocent people protesting against violence and war?

This really surprises me as the majority of people I know who've read the novella find it far superior to the films. In all frankness, the film adaptations are horrible; they completely miss the point of the story.
