Default What Does "NOM" Stand For?

Just wondering if anyone knows what NOM stands for? I was reading some comments regarding Mormons and their views on same sex marriage. In the same sentence, the person also stated that the Vatican funds NOM. Not sure what the person was was talking about. Now I am curious.

I am not sure what your friend is talking about either. However, NOM (in this context) stands for National Organization for Marriage. They are a pressure group which was founded to oppose same-sex marriage.

The current president is Brian Brown and his predecessor was Maggie Gallagher. Both occasionally make appearances on US cable TV news commentary programs.

NOM might be best known for producing a widely mocked commercial called "The Gathering Storm." In the commercial, which went public a few years ago, a group of stern looking people stand on a barren landscape as storm clouds roil and lightning flashes behind them. In the commercial, each person takes turn in making solemn pronouncements about the threat of same-sex marriage.

Thank you! For some reason, when I did a search last night for "NOM", that organization didn't come up.

I just thought that the person (not a friend, just someone on the net) was implying that the Vatican was funding Mormons.

In terms of Mormons I have heard it used to stand for New Order Mormon. Meaning they are Mormon for cultural or family reasons, but dont believe in the tenets of Mormonism

Hmmm, interesting. Maybe they were implying the Vatican funds the Mormons.
