Default What is a Long Lent?

What is a Long Lent? I got this from our diocesan newspaper. It began, "When the U.S. cardinals came to Rome to discuss the Long Lent of 2002...."

In this case, the diocesan newspaper was using the term Long Lent metaphorically, as a reference to the months-long public penance of the Catholic Church in America over the clergy sex-abuse scandal during 2002.
