Default Re: How did you get your name?

Allison Nicole-my mom named me that "because she liked it" that's it. For a boy, she liked the name Eric. My dad wanted the name Remington for a boy (I am so glad I wasn't a boy) and he and my mom got in many fights because she hated that name. She said she would have compromised and done Remington Eric and had me go by Eric. My dad wanted the initials REP, same as his, and my sisters.

My parents didn't know my gender until I was born, and my dad didn't really care as much about picking a girl's name, so my mom got to pick, "Allison Nicole."

I've never cared for my name, but I at least am glad I was never one of 2 or 3 in my class, like the Brittanys, Amandas, Ashleys, Sarahs....no offense, those aren't ugly names, it's just a pain being "Brittany C., Amanda F., Ashley S., Ashley J." etc.

I got my name due to the 11th commandment of naming girls in the 1970s...

Thou shalt name a daughter Jennifer Lynn so she can be one of a million females with that name. haha

Seriously, my mom just liked it. It just so happened that so did every other mom. LOL

This could be dangerous, though! When I was pregnant with DS, DH and I asked DD what we should name her little brother. If we'd gone with her suggestion, DS would now be "Lion".

That's funny! My sister was born the same year the Flinstone's had Pebbles - we were disappointed when Mom and Dad name her Colleen instead of Pebbles!

My brother has the middle name Gerard for the same reasons as stated earier.

I am named Regina Ann - after my Great Aunt Regina (my Dad's favorite aunt) and my Mom's Mother. There were times I HATED the name Regina, but now I love it. It is a Marian name - Regina Coeli (Queen of Heaven).

I was named Kathleen Mary after my mom's dear Catholic friend. It made all of my mom's Protestant aunts crazy!

Lion, hmmm....I have a friend who is Egyptian (she's Coptic Orthodox) she always wanted to name her son Osama (Lion), until 9/11, then she changed her mind. Her son, who was born after that, is named Karim (kindness).

My father heard the name of a fault line in California. San Andreas' fault. When he read that it was the feminine name for Andrew, he chose that name. I've been teased all my life about my name.

We have almost the same name then My first name is Andreas. I got it just because my mother likes it and it is also similar to the name of my father. But it is not good that you have been teased for it. My other two names (middle names) comes from a grandfather to my mother and a grandfather to my father.

My maternal grandparents used to "let God pick the name.". Basically, they would name the baby after whichever saint was being celebrated that day. Worked great until my uncle was born on Ascension Thursday--no patron saint that day! So she just named him Ascension.

Ahh, that's such a cute story, what a blessed day to be born on.
I love the name too, especially in Spanish.

It is now, but not when I was growing up. My father pronounced it like the fault line.
