How ironic that the land of "Peace, Order, and Good Government" would outrank the land of "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".

Unfortunately the Bible is on the top list, in Saudi Arabia if they discovered that you have a Bible in the shipment or when entering through the airport customs, they will send it to the shredder, as mentioned in this incident.

The US is going to be even further down on the list next year.

Actually I'm surprised to see the US in the 12th position, I expected it at least to be in the top 3!
I'm also surprised to see my country before Israel, where we actually have one imposed religion and zero freedom and this latest incident concur with that...........

The internationally accepted index is the UN's International Human Development Index which using various indicies (such as life expectancy, levels of education, poverty, per capita income etc.) ranks 187 countries from those with with very high human development to those with very low human development. There is also an index adjusted for inequality. In the standard index Israel ranks 17th, the United States is 4th and Canada is 6th. Under an adjusted index taking into account inequality, Canada goes down 7 places, Israel 8 places and the United States 19 places.
http://hdr.undp.org/en/statistics/ (scroll down for the ranking of all the countries)
http://hdr.undp.org/en/media/HDR_2011_EN_Table3.pdf
Unlike Canada, the United States and Israel, Saudi Arabia is not among the top echelon of countries with very high human development. It ranks 56th on both indicies.

I'm real glad and proud that Canada was named number one in the world for personal freedom. Makes me proud to be a hockey loving canuck, but I'm not surprised the US did not fare as well and that Israel did poorly

Since the 'personal freedom' index is based on the population's perception of the situation, it just could be that Canadians are easily satisfied or terribly self-satisfied.

Or, that Canadians like living in tyranny?

Rather depends on how one defines tyranny, I expect.
Canada has always sounded like a rather nice place, well the filled-up bits anyway (I don't really do rural).

My family is from rural Canada (Quebec Province). Things have changed alot since the last time I've been there though. I am making a "family homecoming" this summer in honor of my mother.

Scott, I have lived in Canada my entire life and we are nowhere close to tyranny. This is a country with an elected Parliament and no county in the world has people that are more proud of it. What would make you think this is a country of tyranny?

If Catholic priests cannot preach on the morality held by its teachings without fear of imprisonment, you certainly do live in tyranny.
