Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
I am proposing a
BOOK-of-the-MONTH CLUB
forum to be created here in the Catholic Answers forums.
It would have four sub-forums:
- Fiction
- Biography
- Non-Fiction / Academic
- Inspirational
Here's how it could work:
1. The last three days of each month, the Forum Moderator would solicit recommendations (in each sub-category) for the next good read.
2. You would post your suggestion.
3. The last day of the month, the Forum Moderator would create a poll with the top choices for the next book of the month.
4. You would vote for your favorite one.
5. The book with the most votes becomes the next book of the month that we could read and discuss!
Note: This would occur in each sub-category -- therefore, each month, there would be four books that you could read: Fiction, Biography, Non-Fiction/Academic and Inspirational.
What do you think about this proposal?

Cool. Now when I would ever find time to read the books is a different story.

Re: Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
Yes, I would love this! I'm always looking for book recommendations for my book group. Right now, I'm searching for good contemporary Catholic fiction -- and it isn't easy to find, because, for my book group, it can't be romance novels, mysteries, thrillers, science fiction, apocalyptic/end times fiction, or anything geared towards younger readers. That excludes a lot!

Re: Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
Sounds like a good idea. But I know with grad school and two jobs I would never be able to keep up with 1, let alone 4.

Re: Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
If you are a fan of cozy mystery stories, you are certain to enjoy Saints Preserve Us. Very few people can make the claim that their books were inspired by Mother Teresa, St. Maria Goretti, and Ted Nugent, but Kathryn Lively can.

Re: Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
I like the idea, but to make it less work for the moderator, we could just have a book club forum, and each book could have its own thread. So if I wanted to talk about To Know Christ Jesus, I'd just start a thread with that as the thread title, and we'd get going. That way, no one would have to wait to talk about their book, either.

Re: Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
Would probably be a good idea since books are talked about in about every forum there is here. It would a good was to consolidate information.

Re: Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
I think it would be a wonderful idea. However I would include another subforum for children's literature because I have seen threads addressing this very important question.

Re: Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
All I wanted for some time was a Book Reviews Forum. I asked for it but no reply.
You state your case on any book you have read - good or bad.
You could sub-forum but right now I see no necessity until a big volume would demand it. You could also include audio CD/tape sets as well. Maybe even movies.
Let's pray for a Books Forum! I just know the Admin's are considering it.

Re: Do you want a BOOK CLUB forum?
I like the idea of a Book Discussion Forum, with the book title as the title of the posting.
Because there are so many new people joining in at different stages of any thread, and many threads get brought back months after their original posting, I think it would be hard to have a "book of the month club" in the strictest sense.
There's a chance, however, that the categories & subcategories of literature would start to look exactly like the forum home page, i.e., "Apologetics", "Family Reading" "Sacraments" etc., and that might be confusing to new members, not to mention redundant & possibly burdensome for the new server! (don't want it crashing again!)
