Just because one accepts the authority and Truth of the Church doesn't mean that one understands it, or that one doesn't scratch their head and go huh???

But - like a good citizen of the Kingdom and the household of God in His Church, I accept that maybe the Church knows better on matters too complicated for my simple mind to grasp.
For me - the core, as taught in the Bible - is Love. The important things for me to DO as a Catholic and as a follower of our Lord must be likewise built on Love. This keeps me plenty busy and so I don't become distressed over other - more tangential - matters.

Peace
James
I want to start again. It's been a breath of fresh air just to know that so many of you think the same way I do. I need to take more time at reading things through. But this time, I wont run into it like bullet train.

Yes, the common experience in our comments seems to be that, outside the Church, we found we had lost one thing which we couldn't do without, and accepted that to recover it we had to accept all of the Church - with no picking-and-choosing.

BTW, I didn't completely leave the Church or go to another denomination, but I just kept attending, intermittently, while ignoring or rejecting many of its teachings - until I ended up in a personal mess, which I realized had been brought on by this apostasy.
That's just it, if anyone thinks there is confusion and unanswered questions in Catholicism, then in comparison the protestant churches are a whole world of their own on that level.

Amen to that.

From my perspective I would simply say -
Hold fast to the Eucharist and the Mass. Then build your life on the great commandment of Love. Read 1 John 4:7-8, Mt 22:36-40 and Mt 25:31-46 and ponder on this, for this is where we must start. Everything else is either secondary or is built off of this centrality of Love.

Jesus, when speaking about judging others spoke of our having a plank in our own eye. Well - when we are comparing our own fallibility to that of the Church, perhaps we need to remove the plank from our eye before we look for splinters in the eye of the Church...
In other words, If our lives are not properly ordered (in Agape Love) toward God, how can we be so bold as to sit in judgement of long standing teachings of God's Church?

That is why I suggest beginning with Love, and seeking to transform your life into this image of Love - through the Eucharist. Then, as you become conformed in this image of Love (Christ's image) you will find that you have far fewer problems with Church teaching.

Not sure if I've expressed this clearly but I hope you get my meaning.

Peace
James
