2 American Officers Killed in Kabul
Two Nato officers have been killed in the interior ministry in the Afghan capital Kabul, coalition officials say.
Nato said an "individual" had turned his gun on the officers but denied earlier reports he was a Westerner.
Afghan security officials said those killed were an American colonel and major. Local media reports suggest the incident followed a "verbal clash".
Nato commander Gen John Allen said all Nato personnel were being recalled from Afghan ministries on security grounds.

U.S. officers killed in Afghan Interior Ministry
KABUL (Reuters) - Two Americans believed to be a U.S. colonel and major were shot dead in Afghanistan's interior ministry on Saturday, security sources said, while rage gripped the country for a fifth day over the burning of the Muslim holy book at a NATO base.
A spokeswoman for NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed two of their servicemen had been shot dead in central Kabul by an individual who turned his weapon on them. She declined to say if the killer was a member of the Afghan military or police.
Afghanistan's Taliban movement claimed responsibility for the shootings, which it said were in retaliation for the desecration of the Korans at Bagram airfield.

They should have their security escort with them all the time and none of this would have happened. They possibly didn't or couldn't pull their M9 out of their cheap holster fast enough to defend themselves. When I was in Iraq with the Army, I used to carry my 9mil in my pocket, gangster style. Army folks hated my gut because I didn't wear their or my uniform properly. They couldn't do anything to me because I belonged to the Navy. When sh.. hits the fan, let's see who can retrieve his or her M9 the fastest. We were in a war zone.

Re: 2 American Officers Killed in Kabul
US General John Allen, commander of the International Security Assitance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, has issued a statement on today's shooting of two military advisers in Kabul's Ministry of Interior.
"I condemn today's attack at the Afghan Ministry of Interior that killed two of our coalition officers, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the brave individuals lost today,"
"We are investigating the crime and will pursue all leads to find the person responsible for this attack. The perpetrator of this attack is a coward whose actions will not go unanswered."
"For obvious force protection reasons, I have also taken immediate measures to recall all other ISAF personnel working in ministries in and around Kabul," continued Gen. Allen.
"We are committed to our partnership with the Government of Afghanistan to reach our common goal of a peaceful, stable and secure Afghanistan in the near future."

Re: 2 American Officers Killed in Kabul
A central element of U.S.-Afghan-Taliban talks is - or was, perhaps - the renouncing of violence by the Taliban

We need to get out of there. There is nothing we can do.
