Has anyone worked for a grassroots campaign before?

Has anyone here worked for a grassroots campaign? What is it like? I received an offer to work as a canvasser in a grassroots campaign for the summer. I talked to the supervisors who talked positively about their own experiences but they were a bit vague about the working conditions. I don't want to complain since jobs are difficult to get nowadays but I don't know if this is something I should be getting into...
