Somehow whehter a cultural tradition is acceptable, ethical, and moral is no longer "within limits" for polite society to talk about.
Remember, slavery was accepted for thousands of years in the world. And is still praticed and accepted in certain parts of the world. It's an accepted "practice" and "method" of dealing with people. Does that mena we should not denounce it but just "leave it alone" because it is accepted by some parts of the world different than the West?
How about burying your 12-year old alive after she was raped as a sort of "honor killing?" That has been accepted by many societies for centuries and still is------------is it then acceptable to let it continue?
How about genital mutilation in Africa?
The list goes on.
Sorry, but there ARE certain cultural traditions that are more moral and acceptable than others. And most of them come from the CHRISTIAN WEST.
Again, sorry if that "offends" some here, but the Truth is the Truth, just like Holy Mother Church is the TRUTH as set down by God.

Big deal. Breastfeeding disgusts most Baby Boomers I've met. My daughter who drools constantly at the age of 8 disgusts people everywhere we go. That's not necessarily a reason not to do something. Looked to me like Ms. Silverstone and the baby were having a grand time. Explain to me how the kid is ruined for life again?

Ok----I can definitely understand that (your example) under THAT context.........
But ALL the time like Silverstone is apparently doing? And her child is NOT brain-damaged.........................
And btw, I'm not "picking" on AS------she chose to put this all over internet for people to see. I'm commenting and reacting to it like everybody else is.
Repeated feedings like she does (and as the doctors on the article declre) repeatedly expose her child to all sort things like bacteria she may not even know she has.
As to your situation.
God bless you. My prayers and thoughts are with you. Folks like you who selflessly care for disabled children are one of the true unsung heroes of society.
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

Eh. Whatever. If it doesn't gross her out then she's entitled to do it.

I agree with you about the veganism part.

I agree. Basically "much ado about nothing". And, does anyone remember our mothers spitting on a hankerchief to wipe our faces?

Meh.
I thought it would be something REALLY gross or dangerous.
This is mildly disgusting.

Guilty of that one, too.
I guess I'm different. I grew up running barefoot on an island, digging big holes, catching reptiles, building forts and campfires, fishing, hunting, crabbing, shelling oysters, drinking rainwater, eating wild blackberries and honeysuckle ... bacteria as far as the eye can see!
I used to come into the house with green lizards dangling from my earlobes, run to the fridge, and drink milk right out of the carton. I once kept a baby possum riding around in my hair for nearly a week. He thought I was his mama.
So something as simple as processing food the natural way (y'know, before we had Cuisinart), really doesn't gross me out one bit.

Ok--------I was being saracastic and smart-alecky then in that context-----I now admit that. Mea culpa.
OTOH-------
The kid DOES have a good chance of being mercilessly teased when he's a bit older regarding this, particualrly when he goes to elementary and middle school--------
"I saw you on Youtube yesterday. Your mom used to feed you a bird when you were a toddler. Your mom is SO Gross!!! And you are gross!! Nyah, nyah!!!!!!!!!"
They may even give him a nickname reagrding this----like "Birdie" or something---or "spit Kid."
Maybe it's just me, but it would be BEYOND embarassing for me to have the whole world see that all over the Internet as I was growing and having some of them think my mother was freaky for feeding me like this.
I don't know, that's just me.
but comment dult noted. And yes, I regret the "smart-alecky"comment now..........I was just so grossed out by this.
Pardon me.

Meh, I think when your mom's a film star, you pretty much get a pass on everything. The kids are gonna tease you no matter what. Especially if you're from a family of radical religious nut-jub Catholics like ours.

Could be...................................... .
OTOH....................I don't care HOW famous you father/mother is, you are still going to be picked on for some things.
Particularly with the names celebrities give their children.
David Bowie's son ZOWIE BOWIE (yes, that was his name) had to change his name whe he was an adult because he was tormented throughout his life by peopl commenting on his name.
I'll bet that will be the fate of Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter APPLE MARTIN. (I'd like that with a twist of of lemon and an olive, please).
And Nicolas Cage's son KAL-EL. (Superman's Kryptonian name, BTW).
Sorry, but sometimes, not even your parent's fame can save you from ridicule. Weird sometimes IS weird.

Honestly, and I don't mean to start some kind of flame war here, but I've lived in societies that were far, far more pro-family, pro-baby, pro-kid than ours that I would argue they're more civilized than we are.
In some parts of the world mothers think nothing of handing babies off to complete strangers so they can get their shopping on the bus. Women would routinely hand me babies or put their children's hands in mine and turn their backs to finish their business transactions or pack their shopping up. One time on a bus I was holding a stranger's baby. The kid started fussing. The dozing mother woke up and asked me if I could feed him for her. As in breastfeed. I told her I couldn't and she shot me a look of pity and looked around for a mother who could.
No one's ever heard of adults, particularly women, who deliberately try to harm kids.
In some parts of the world if you give a mother a disapproving look because her baby's crying in church or her toddler is having a temper tantrum in the market, the people around are going to come down on you like a ton of bricks. They're going to tell you that you're the adult so you're the one with the capacity to ignore it. The kids are just doing what kids do.
