Glad to see common sense is winning out in some areas. My wife and I were at the mall the other day and I was shocked by some of the life-sized posters advertising the porn dresses...sorry prom dresses. The posters were so bad, I wouldn't want my son seeing them--let alone my daughters--and he's 21. The ones that seemed most popular (as in, every store had several models) were the ones with no front to the bottom/skirt part of the dress and exposed, glittery bikini bottoms. The posters would have fit in perfectly outside a strip club, not so much someplace I'd want to take my kids shopping.

NO! I haven't seen those. Like I said, are we going to be looking back on strapless, mid thigh and preferring it?!

The first time I saw one, I remarked to my wife about how the cut of the dress basically points all attention toward the girl's crotch and also makes it an extremely accessible area. I told her that if our son had brought a date home wearing something like that, we'd have sent her away immediately.

I can't seem to find a picture on the internet. I would love to show my daughter what "the designers" have in mind for her, for her next step in prom wear, after she falls for the strapless ultra short dresses they are pushing now.

Edit to add: I just described it to her. She thinks no one would ever wear that. I told her the girls are being groomed to wear it now, little by little. She's kind of naive.

I don't think she's naive. She's been "groomed" by the social media to think the very stuff we're talking about is what all the cool people are wearing.

I can't find a picture either, and can't understand why. Almost every store at the mall selling prom dresses had at least one of these displayed. I'll have to check one of the store names again the next time I'm there to see if I can at least get a name of how they're marketing it. For the record, these weren't at Frederick's of Hollywood, but at regular stores and being marketed as prom dresses.

Edit to add: I just found a dress almost identical to the style being marketed at the mall. I don't think I should link to it, but it was in a gallery of the top 10 sluttiest wedding dresses. The only difference between the mall dresses and the wedding dress is that the mall dresses had slightly more material up top and a good deal less at the bottom.

No she's naive - she thinks nothing bad is going on. She thinks the kids won't fall for it and wear those bikini dresses.

So I guess this is what's coming to our churches now. Meanwhile Cardinal Dolan is admitting that the Church in America failed to teach on contraception. I will add, the Church in America failed just as badly to teach on modesty. The way brides and bridesmaids show up in our churches is a disgrace, and it's only happening because our Bishops and Priests failed to speak out. Contrast the USA to Italy and Europe - the Church in Europe does enforce the rules of modesty, and people do not attend Church there dressed like hookers.

We are approaching the point where our Bishops will have to learn some braveness from the secular world and specifically from the example of the school principals: enough is enough, lay down the rules of a dress code, get specific about the requirements, and enforce the rules. We who are supposed to be the salt of the world need to get a dose of salt from the world, because we have become worse than the secular world around us.

I've yet to see any really bad wedding gowns but at one recent wedding the bridesmaids apparently got to have their dresses altered on their own. The one had it cut so low in back you could see her tramp stamp and a bit more than the top of her g-string. It was bad enough that wives were getting mad at their husbands before the husbands even had a chance to see the dress. This was in a Catholic church although I couldn't say whether the priest had a chance to see the dresses in advance.

Sorry... I know it's not funny but the way you put it was quite humorous!
