I don't blame you. It is hard to defend what cannot be defended.
First, teaching can and does change,
Depends on the teaching. However, here are some LDS examples of teachings that should NOT have changed IF the teachings were from God:
1. God is Spirit (later, God is flesh and bones)
2. Adam is God (later, it was false doctrine)
3. Polygamy (later, when threatened with losing holdings (ie. money) no polygamy)
4. Black and the Priesthood (later, when schools threatened to stop playing BYU, blacks could hold the Priesthood)
5. Blacks could become white (later, when it was clearly not going to happen, black could become pure)
6. Catholic Church is from Satan (now, they have backed off from that)
7. Man will NEVER reach the moon (we see how THAT prophesy turned out)
8. Women MUST obey husbands (no longer part of temple ceremony)
9. Blood Oaths (no longer part of temple ceremony
10. Man will get their own planets (now not discussed)
11. Joseph had NINE (minimum) versions of a first vision
And these are just a few. Face it, God would NEVER confuse His people this way. YOU ARE FOLLOWING A FALSE PROPHET
that is precisely why we need prophets.
No, these kinds of false teachings are exactly the reason we DON'T
Second, sometimes non-members try to hold the prophet to unreasonable standards.
No...we hold them to the same standards you do...I have watched your GC......the difference is, whenever one of your false prophets screws up, you rush to claim he was NOT speaking as a prophet at that moment. Way too handy to have a prophet who, when he says stuff you like, he is a prophet, but when he says stuff you don;t, he was suddenly just a man
Yes he is the prophet of God on the earth but he is still a man. Yes he speaks for the Lord but he does not always do so. There have been a limited few occasions where the prophet appears to have spoken incorrectly.
God would never allow his prophet to speak "incorrectly"
It doesn't worry me.
It should. It should a LOT. The fact it doesn;t bother you certainly bothers me.
Prophets were never to be infallible.
Actually, on matters of doctrine, they are. hence the proof your church is false.
There are a number of examples in the Bible of prophets making mistakes. So what? The spirit speaks truth on the matter. That is the way to judge. It always has been, it always will be.
Mistakes? Yes. False doctrine? No
My only worry is the way statements such as the above are twisted and dragged about by non members in hopes of somehow attempting to prove that prophets are false. I hope you wont do the same.
We do not drag statements around. We post false doctrine taught by your alleged prophets
Even this last conference there was a good teaching on this matter.
Even Satan believes in God.
Again, you are like I was when I was LDS. I will ALWAYS pray for you.
