Default I'm taking back the rainbow!

I see that one of the "Rainbow Sash" threads got updated today, and I was wondering if I was the only one a little upset that the rainbow, a beautiful creation of God, has been co-opted by a group that is trying to bend the Catholic Church to its own agenda.

I made a new ribbon bookmark for my Christian Prayer; it has ribbons of all colors of the rainbow (in the right order); I hope nobody who sees it thinks I'm in support of the Rainbow Sash movement.

In any event, I wish to restore the rainbow to its rightful place. Here are the Bible verses that mention the rainbow:

Genesis 9:13-16

I will set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be the sign of a covenant between me, and between the earth. And when I shall cover the sky with clouds, my bow shall appear in the clouds: And I will remember my covenant with you, and with every living soul that beareth flesh: and there shall no more be waters of a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the clouds, and I shall see it, and shall remember the everlasting covenant, that was made between God and every living soul of all flesh which is upon the earth.

Ezekiel 1:26:28

And above the firmament that was over their heads, was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of the sapphire stone, and upon the likeness of the throne, was a likeness as of the appearance of a man above upon it. And I saw as it were the resemblance of amber as the appearance of fire within it round about: from his loins and upward, and from his loins downward, I saw as it were the resemblance of fire shining round about. As the appearance of the rainbow when it is in a cloud on a rainy day: this was the appearance of the brightness round about. (from Ezekiel's vision of God)

Sirach 43:12

Look upon the rainbow, and bless him that made it: it is very beautiful in its brightness.

Rev 4:1-3

After these things I looked, and behold a door was opened in heaven, and the first voice which I heard, as it were, of a trumpet speaking with me, said: Come up hither, and I will shew thee the things which must be done hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and behold there was a throne set in heaven, and upon the throne one sitting. And he that sat, was to the sight like the jasper and the sardine stone; and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

Rev 10:1

And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, and a rainbow was on his head, and his face was as the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.

Who else is with me?

I'm with you.

When I was younger, and unaware of the "Rainbow Sash" movement, I had a pair of rainbow-colored toe socks. I wore them to school one day, and a kid told me that if I wore them, it meant I was gay. I thought it was pretty ridiculous for him to tell me what I meant by wearing certain socks.

I'm for it.

And while we're at it, let's take back intelligence and wit. (How many times have you heard this line on some stupid tv show: "But you're so smart and funny, I just assumed you were gay.")

I'm in. Keep using the rainbow as normal and it will cease to be a useful tool to the "gay" agenda. Don't give it away to them.

I thought that the Rainbow was one of the symbols of the Cursillo movement long before the gay folks appropriated it. Something about De Coloris. Than of course the Irish, God Bless them, often said that if one could nab one of the wee people where the rainbow touched the earth that he would have to hand over a pot of Gold. It is sad enough that we have let them take over gay as a word to describe themselves when they seem to be unhappy with evrything including themselves.

Hi Folks

My husband and I always say we're taking back the rainbow when we wear our hats. They're crocheted and multicoloured and neither of us gave a second thought when we were buying them.

Our eldest daughter, soon to be 18, pleads "just DON:T wear them in the city!"

And yes, the Cursillo movement has had the rainbow for it's symbol for years.

It's encouraging to see my fellow Catholics recognizing the power of words of symbols. We know that we're immersed in a spiritual battle and that one of the primary weapons are words and symbols, so the homosexual agenda (notice that I refuse to concede the word "gay") has taken the rainbow, but we must not let them. "Take back the rainbow" is a most appropriate phrase to signal that we will not allow any more appropriating. That would be a good idea for an apostolate "Take back the Rainbow," or "Word Warriors" or something to that effect which will be on the look out for semantic engineering and symbol inversion -- perversion -- of any kind. Yes, let's take back the rainbow; let's not have the familiar become defamiliarized or the generally understood become the distorted and the strange.

I was trying to research the history of the rainbow flag and homosexuality and I found this sad fact "It is even officially recognized by the International Congress of Flag Makers".

Even more shocking, there are flags for the following: the leather-pride flag, the transgendered flag, the bi-sexual flag and the "bear-man" flag.

It's not just the rainbow anymore. Apparently the bear is being taken as a symbol for hairy homosexual men. I wish I were kidding.
