Most moms I know aren't employed, most of them are smart enough to realize they are lucky. Heck, just getting everyone up, fed, dressed and off to daycare is quite a chore...and that's all before starting work.
As was said, its not that I don't think raising children isn't work, but fail to see how its as much or more work than raising kids AND working outside the home. We aren't talking about either or here ie employment OR children, but doing both.
Anne Romney should just be herself, and stop apologizing for her choices, because many people feel she is making it worse by trying to pretend she has faced the same challenges the poor or middle class parents make.

Being a scientist sounds like a fun job, how is that tougher than chasing 5 boys?

Romney's attempts to portray his wife as everywoman are absurd and the housewife remarks just make it worse. Comments like "There were several nannies to oversee, as well as a number of maids, butlers, chauffeurs, gardeners, tutors and private coaches. My struggles were not easy, but neither are the struggles of other stay-at-home moms all across the nation." are utterly ridiculous. The average American woman wouldn't find it such a burden to have a full staff catering to your every need and doing all of the work, a normal housewife does, for her. She doesn't know what its like to struggle and sob stories about managing servants are just offensive. If the Romney's really understood the average American worker they wouldn't be flaunting their wealth either deliberately or otherwise. To be honest, I don't believe that either Ann or Mitt know how to speak to or connect with people who earn an average or below average wage. They have a lot of great country club one-liners and they're digging a deeper hole with them.

Try working all day, after getting 3 kids out the door, then coming home to cook, clean and Chase those kids.
Again, we aren't talking either or, but doing BOTH! I agree just going to work everyday, with no children to care for IS easier than being a stay ay home mom, but its impossible for something to be so hard, and it not to be harder to do that thing along with another.
That's like saying only having a job waiting tables is harder than having a job waiting tables and working in a factory. It's ridiculous, and the Romneys sound ridiculous trying to equate the two.

Do you have a source for that quote? I'd like to read it.

Re: Ann Romney: ‘I Love The Fact That There Are Women Out There Who Don’t Have A Choice’ And ‘Must Go To Work’
Mrs. Romney did not word her ideas particularly well, I believe I know what she was trying to say in a positive light. However, who the heck cares?
Ann Romney is not running for President of the United States.
If Mitt Romney starts making firm statements about women, motherhood and his believes on what those roles should be, then it's worth discussing.

What exactly is "it?" A full staff of nannies, maids, butlers, chauffeurs, gardeners, tutors and private coaches don't leave much for a housewife to do around the house.

No, she had a staff, and my aunt has MS. Sadly, my aunt can't afford a staff.
I have no problems with Anne Romney's choices, but she needs to stop trying to make me believe that she is somehow in touch with us commoners.

She gave an interview on FOX News, she had no help (from nannies, maids, etc.) with the kids until the 5th one, when her MS started getting worse.

Hmm, on CNN she did say she managed help...so now we have to figure out which is true.
I don't know that it really matters to me, the fact is Anne Romney has never had to wonder if her kids were sick enough to justify a Dr visit, never had to tell her kids no to extra lessons or activities because they weren't in the budget, she's never had to choose whether to pay the mortgage or the electric bill.
And she has never had to work.

I didn't realize that scientists were that underpaid.

That's the quote that started this whole mess, most woman raising children find it insulting.

I posted on this. LifeSite didn't confuse things. The guy they quoted did.
