profile help

When I edited my profile I filled in all the spaces. However when I hit the link that allows you to view the profile as public sees it only my basic information is showing. None of my favorites etc. For the life of me I can't figure out how to fix it. Help!

A frustrating glitch which sometimes happens is that our profiles are not fully viewable by ourselves. However, when this happens, often your information is viewable to others. And that seems to be the case, this time.

I will post a screen capture if you want. However, before I do I want to caution you.

If Dani Metzinger is your real name, then are sacrificing a whole lot of privacy, and potentially opening yourself up to identity theft.

The threads here at Catholic Answers Forums tend to score high in Google search results. So its not unusual for anyone in the world searching for Catholic this or that to run across a CAF thread. I mention this because that means potentially anyone in the world might be reading your profile or gleaning information about your life from what you post here.

I apologize if I sound as if I am scaremongering or lecturing. I just wanted to pass along a friendly caution to make sure that you have considered these things.

Well Dani Metzinger isn't my legal name. I did however take my age off the site to make it harder to find me. Is there a way to change my display name?

I'm sorry if I alarmed you. Honestly, I can't say how great the danger is. But I do know it exists. CAF has 300,000 members, but it also has a much larger number of viewers who never register an account.

Unfortunately, no, there is no way to change our user name. If Dani Metzinger isn't your real name, the problem is likely minimal. And if you don't use that name on other websites, then the danger of someone harvesting information from all the sites and putting that information together doesn't exist.

Still, if you (or anyone else reading this) decide to change your user name, the best we can do is abandon our current account and start a new one. This is easiest done when we have a low post count, and are relatively unknown to the other members. If you (or anyone else reading this) decide to abandon your account, be sure to delete any information on your profile.
