JC Penney has laid low in the month of April by airing two different commercials that portrayed them as remaining neutral in the cultural war. Even though JCP seemed to have changed their approach, their May catalog shows they are making a strong effort otherwise. On pages ten and eleven, under the title "Freedom of Expression," you'll find "Wendi and her partner Maggie and daughters" and again "Wendi, daughters Raven and Clover, and partner Maggie" in text. In the picture both women are wearing wedding bands.

Families who once supported JCP and hold open store credit cards or are on their mailing list received the May catalog yesterday. Today, customers are able to view the May catalog online on the JC Penney website under May books. (Click on image for larger view)

OMM has so many issues to cover we had no choice but to move on earlier in the year but have decided to revisit this issue and speak out again. It is obvious that JCP would rather take sides than remain neutral. JCP will hear from the other side so they need to hear from us as well.

Last time OMM contacted JC Penney store managers, we were brushed off. Some even experienced in person the store manager saying "Thank you" and walking off while their customer and our concerned members were in mid-sentence. OMM has been told that JCP corporate office told store managers to say "Thank you" and then walk away. If they want our business, then we will not be ignored!

The store managers are the ones who can communicate to corporate for their customers. Managers will not want to be in the middle so when we politely express our concern to them, they should realize that they are the ones taking all the complaints and corporate is not having to answer for the decisions they are making. Managers will pass along customers’ frustrations, and their own, to corporate because they will likely get tired of their game. Managers will also have to answer to corporate for the loss in sales from traditional families, so we will give them the proof they need to back this up when we tell them we will no longer be able to shop with them until they take a neutral stand.

TAKE ACTION

Since the corporate office doesn't consider your call important, please call, or visit, your local store manager. Local managers are more likely to listen to your concerns and pass them along to the corporate office.

Please be kind when you ask them to tell corporate that they should remain neutral in the cultural war. What was the purpose in stating on page eleven that Wendi and Maggie are partners?

You can find the phone number of your local store here, or in your local phone directory.

Normally, OMM has a prewritten letter ready to send from our email server, but JCP blocks emails from our server. You may send your own email to: jcpcorpcomm@jcpenney.com.

If I am not mistaken, they also have Ellen Degeneres as a spokesperson, and Ellen D.

And gay people will stop being gay if we stop buying shirts and slacks there.

There are a lot of good people working there that have nothing to do with this.

That's OK. I wasn't suggesting a boycot, I was making people aware of the AD, because I truly believe that just like many other things in our modern day world this is the kind of thing that is slowly filtered into society to desensitize people.

50 years ago Rob and Laura Petrie couldn't even sleep in the same bed on t.v(I remember watching the reruns as a young child and wondering why they had twin beds...). Now anything short of actual naked sex is pretty much OK for prime time t.v.. 25 years ago you would have been hard pressed to find a woman on a t.v. commercial in a bra and panties. Now it's the norm and we should only be bothered that our young sons and daughters view such things if we are uptight or a prude.

Premarital sex, contraception, abortion, living together, at one time were all considered immoral. Not any more. We were desensitized little by little in just the same was as this latest JC Penny AD, until we find ourselves at the point that most barely give a second thought to hear the mention of these things.

It is now pretty much a given that barring a miracle, that within a few years most will all be desensitized and not give a second thought or look, to seeing same sex couples on t.v. shows, in family advertisements or walking down the street hand in hand.

Just 10-15 years ago, most would not have seen this coming, but here we are.

Within 20 years, there will be little left of Christian values in this country. Most will say, that's hysteria. But many would never have dreamed of the day that we would see a same sex couple proudly displayed in a JC Penny AD as just another ordinary family.

No, but we shouldn't support the promotion of a disordered lifestyle choice. We can speak up and express concern. Nobody may choose to have to deal with same sex attraction, but they certainly do choose whether to act upon it or not.

You are right. I don't believe it said anywhere in the article that we should not shop there. It said we should call, or write and express concern and ask them to remain neutral. They don't have to speak out against Gay lifestyle, they also don't have to promote it.

There are a lot of good people that work lots of places, including hospitals where abortions are performed, that doesn't mean we shouldn't use the hospital However, when we see something that is morally wrong, we can choose to speak up and voice concern.

If Wendy and Maggie have daughters, there has to be a man involved somehow.

Yes, although putting sperm into a cup (either for money or as a friendly donation) is quite often the only involvement they have.

Having less superficial flaws is not immoral, living a gay lifestyle is. Desensitizing the public to this kind of disordered lifestyle is not good.

My daughter has a classmate at her Catholic school that has two moms. Last year one of the moms had twins. My daughter's classmate is adamant that her baby sisters have no father. This is what her moms have told her, that there is absolutely no father. My daughter (second grade) keeps asking us about it. We are firm in the fact that the babies, do indeed, have a father. He may not live with the family, but he exists somewhere. My daughter and her classmate are both confused by the situation. Sad, and something very difficult to explain to a 7 year old.
