Who is/are the mother and brothers of Jesus?

Mark 3:31-35 refers to Jesus' mother and brothers coming to him as he's teaching. He ignores them and tells his listeners that the one who does the will of God is his brother, and sister and mother. I'm a christian non-catholic man of faith and I want to understand you. Not only does this section in Scripture seem to weigh against your teaching that Mary had no other children but Christ, but suggests Jesus did not vernerate his mom as you do.

My son, a true child of God whom I raised and love, was recently confirmed in your church. I don't want to debate doctrine with him. I want to encourage him. But, I don't know how to do that if I don't understand you and what you are teaching him.

I should think you have a stock response to my inquirey but I do thank you for your time and thoughts. I just registered on this site and I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.
