Obviously what we are doing isn't working. This is my theory on why, though the "what" seems clear. I believe that many young people are drawn to be homosexual activities that years ago never would have. Then they keep getting told that this sin is just a choice. We all have the law of God written in our hearts, even if society helps us drown that law out. I think the depression that results is a spiritual dissonance between what young people are taught and what they know deep down.
What the world needs today is the same thing that they have always needed. They need the gospel. In making sin acceptable, we give no hope for redemption. Even being trapped in the guilt of sin can be faced when we understand the unlimited mercy of God.
In TS Eliot's "The Cocktail Party" one character hopes that the psychiatrist can tell her she is insane. This suprises the doctor, but he is told that as long as she is crazy then there is hope for a cure, but if she is okay, then the world is crazy and she just couldn't live with that.
This is what I think underlies teen suicide increase. We do not need to tell kids their are sinners, but we need to quit telling them they are okay and give them the Gospel.

A very interesting take on it. Very.

Re: Gay rights in the US - charts and all
I am not a homo-phobe, but I strongly feel that civil rights based on sexual preference is ludicrous.
Homosexuals already have de facto preferential treatment in most communities in the USA.
Just take a look at the proliferation of gay bars around the country. These places exist more for assignation than for social contact. By the same token, if you had such a bar open for straight people, the local police would quickly shut it down as being a threat to the moral standards of the community!
Also, in many communities, you have certain areas-especially in public parks- where homosexuals "cruise" for sexual contacts at night. These areas are usually well known-at least amongst young men. If a similar thing existed for straight persons, again the police would shut it down and arrest everyone in sight for prostitution or at least "disorderly conduct". Again, Gays get left alone.
It is well known that in many communities, Turkish, or Steam Baths are little more than gay brothels in many cases. Remember the spopular song "YMCA" by The Village People?...They are rarely bothered by the local police, yet how often do you read that the local "Massage Parlour" was raided for prostitution?. ....and don't tell me that the perps in one are not paid but they are in the other!
This whole thing about gay "civil rights" is nothing but a monumental propaganda effort on the part of political and social progressives to gain acceptance of sexual abberation by society, so the individuals doing these acts can assuage their guilty consciences.
The truth is, homosexuals may be tolerated in today's sexually liberated society, but iot will be a cold day in hell before they are accepted by it.
What all the broo ha ha ers seem not to know is that sexual morality in Western Society operates like a pendulum. In one era one will have rampant Libertineism followed by a period of Puritanism. There was rampant sexual licenciousness in the England of the 1600's. The Puritans rebelled against this and came to N. America in 1621. Their morality pre-dominated until the early 1700's, after which licenciousness reared its head in the American Colonies, followed by the Victorian Era of public Puritanism up to the 1950's, followed by what we have today. It is only a matter of time before the pendulum swings again.
