Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit! As it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen!

This is very sad. But it is good that the trend throughout the world is in the direction of freedom and equality. I hope those campaigning for equality are not so angered by the opposition that they seek to restrict the right of Christians to marry as they wish, or to otherwise carry on their lives.

Disappointing outcome, but ultimately of little consequence. This will all be undone eventually, and one day, American will look back on this in shame.

Here's hoping lawsuits will deal with this unpleasantness.

Almighty God,
May the Holy Spirit enlighten our society
to treasure the heroic love of husband and wife,
and guide our leaders to sustain and protect
the singular place of mothers and fathers
in the lives of their children. AMEN!

Very, very sad. In 50-100 years everyone will look back on this with the same distaste as racism.

Oh, well, just another state that I'm never visiting if I can help it.

Also, OP; really? A DANCING EMOTICON? Yes, you can still get married in NC, just like you could before. The only thing this accomplished is banning marriage between two people of the same sex. I find it very... sad? I can't even think of a word - deplorable that you can be so overjoyed that you beat back those icky gays and their agenda.

Again, it wasn't your rights in question, it was those of gays. And you're overjoyed you were able to deny them marriage rights.

You make me sick.

To our atheist friends here: I'm sure you've already heard this, but in case you haven't, I'd like to point a few things out. Most Catholics don't oppose gay marriage because they find gays "icky." It's because we understand marriage as an institution directed towards producing families. In that respect, we do not view marriage, sacramental or not, as a right. The breakdown of the nuclear family in modern times is an obvious reality, and in a society that has already assumed a selfish position on marriage (i.e. it's all about feelings), gay marriage only further undermines the historical and true purpose of marriage: to create stable, loving environments in which to produce and raise children.
The phenomenon of marriage as being purely about "being in love" (while that is an important part, but still only a part) is a wholly modern one and the results speak for themselves. So, it might seem to be simply "mean" or "homophobic" to you, but for many, if not most, of us, that's just not the case.

We Catholics and other Christians cannot keep our own house in order and then we try to tell other people what to do and what is right. It sickens me also. From 1Cor 5:9-13 "...But I now write to you not to associate with anyone named a brother, if he is immoral, greedy, an idolator, a slanderer, a drunkard, or a robber...For why should I be judging outsiders? Is it not your business to judge those within? God will judge those outside..."

Aren't you guilty of what you are trying to condemn? I am confused because it seems you are saying Catholics are judgmental and uncaring, but your posts seems to be the one that is judgmental and uncaring.

Regardless, your post makes one thing very clear, you do not understand the Catholic position, yet you have no problem judging what you perceive it to be. Frankly, I'm at a loss for words as well....

This has absolutely nothing to do with judgment; it has everything to do with the sanctity of the institution of marriage. God created this bond, not government or people. It is not your choice or mine to change the definition of marriage.

Marriage is between one man and one woman, that's it. No hate, no judgment, except for the people who will call us Christians many ugly names for standing up for God's holy sacrament called matrimony.

Really? Have you put even a second of thought behind that statement?

How can we have any laws without telling other people what to do and what is right?

How can we have a society without telling other people what to do and what is right?

Serious question to you. Does absolute right and wrong exist?

Peace

Tim

A gay man has exactly the same right to marry as I do. I'm not sure what you are suggesting. There is no restrictions that exist for homosexuals that don't apply equally to me.

Tim
