And we all must appreciate how incredible it is that we can see a man go from sitting Pope to Saint within our own lifetimes. Very few have been that fast. It is historic.

Amen and amen.

I'm only 30 right now, so I *really* hope I'm alive to see this!

I would welcome this, as long as it isn't so rushed that there ends up being a scandal, like the miracle turns out to be a fraud. Also the Pope occasionally made imprudent remarks or gestures, and there's been criticism of his handling of the Legion of Christ and other scandals, all of which would have had to have been objectively, dispassionately investigated to make sure there's no ground for denying heroic virtue.

For the most part though I trust the Vatican to be aware of this danger and not have taken imprudent shortcuts in the process so far, and not to make them going forward either.

I agree that Bl. John Paul did and said things that were troubling to many Catholics, including myself, but I trust the Congregation to examine them properly. After all, this is an infallible matter, right? The Holy Ghost will take care of things.

Much slower than the canonizations of St. Francis of Assisi and of St. Anthony of Padua

Perhaps things were a bit clearer with those saints.

Yes they were friends of Gregory IX and he decided that he knew them well enough to canonize them.

Yes, however, from the article:
Quote:
In Poland, the call for a swift canonization of John Paul II is great. The Warsaw Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz however has recently spoken out publicly against an acceleration of the canonization process. John Paul II was beatified a year ago on 1 May 2011, by his successor Benedict XVI in St. Peter's Square. It was the shortest process in modern church history.

Thanks be to God!! This is wonderful news!!

And quite honestly, I really can't believe that there are Catholics who feel differently!

We can always find some qualifier to say that something is a special case. If people want to gripe about it they will gripe, and if people want to be happy then they will be happy independently if it is the fastest in Church history, in modern Church history, in contemporary Church history or whatever. Here we are dealing with people feelings. If the Pope is going to canonize someone that is a dogmatic statement driven by the Holy Spirit and I am going to accept it. Am I going to say that St. Hildegard of Bingen is not such a great saint because it took so long to canonize her? No! Am I going to say that Benedict XVI should have left things they way the were? No!

There is no infallible statement at this point.

Anyway, I'm sure the Holy Spirit will have his way no matter what.
