Indoctrination... A carry over from the Public School thread
Go to the site and view the trailer. I'm not saying that all of these situations are the norm for every child or in every public school. Obviously they are not. I'm not even saying that we agree with everything that our Protestant brothers and sisters do when it comes to education. But I think there is a great deal of truth just within the trailer from some wise Christian men who truly do love the Lord.

Oh, come on! How big are most school districts? You can certainly influence them through elections. I think that education needs to be reformed, but not because it's the great satan. It's because the education is now ineffective and not preparing kids for life in the 21st century , largely because because of unions and the lack of a good model for rating teachers. However, we need a new model of education more based on critical thinking instead of memorization of facts.
My girls, through their public school chorus, as a required activity, sing a MASS, yes a MASS, every year, IN A CHURCH! One was Shubert's Mass in G. They sing religious music all the time. That is the public school I know.
Funny story - during the first rehearsal for the new Mass one year, someone remarked that the words (in latin) were same as last years! My daughter was able to explain the Mass and how it is the same through the ages.

Re: Indoctrination... A carry over from the Public School thread
Actually, what we really need is an OLD model that teaches critical thinking! The classical study of literature, history, math, sciences, art, and philosophy is what builds minds that can handle any challenge. My daughter goes to a charter school that uses the Great Books kind of educational model and whose basis is the value of Western Civilization and its accomplishments. How many 9th graders have read and discussed a documentary history of the United States and de Tocqueville? And can relate those back to Greece and Rome based on their junior high education? Pulchrum, Bonum, Verum is their motto, and she's in her fourth year of Latin. She is learning the skills to dissect an argument for logical flaws and evaluate it for aesthetic appeal and truthfulness. That's what we need citizens to be able to do!
