The Cat Lovers Thread
I created this thread for cat lovers to talk about their cats... living and those who have crossed over the rainbow bridge as they like to say. I have a cat now named Precious. You can find pictures of her in my album here on CAF. She is a white Domestic Short Hair with black and gray tabby patches. She's an adorable little cat. She's almost 8 years old. I love her to pieces.
My Mom used to have two Siamese cats and a Persian cat. The two Siamese cats were named Simba and Timon and the Persian was named Nala. Yes, we named them after characters on The Lion King. That was a pretty popular movie with us kids. lol
My dad and mom when they were married had a Siamese cat named Simon too. I remember one time he was trying to get out of the basement by turning the door knob. He was a smart cat. Well, my dad thought it was a robber coming through the basement and he opened the door with a baseball bat in his hands only to find Simon at the top step. lol

Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
We've got three females -- a tabby-top-white-bottom, a tortoise-shell, and a deaf odd-eyed white. A purr-fect household.

Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
The best cat story I have is when my indoor-only cat had escaped my apartment. I went out, searched for him, called for him, had friends come over and search, and call. All afternoon, we went block to block. No sign of him. He was a big orange and white cat, with no front claws (had been declawed before I got him). Very friendly and would not hide if he were lost. After a long time without a sign of him, I dismissed everyone and went back up to my apartment to cry.
For some reason I needed something in one of the 2 storage closets, walked in there, and there he was, sleeping in an open drawer!
He looked up at me, sleepily, "Mmmmmm-urf?" like, "Whatcha want?"
I really debated about whether to strangle him on the spot. I had called for him in the apartment and he never said a word. We had been calling him all over the neighborhood, while he napped happily on some blankets.
I hugged him instead.
He was a cat that never stopped purring, so his meows were always half-purr. Man, I loved that cat.
Then there was the time when my next cat, Ginger, really did get out, and got lost. Hubby, who was just Boyfriend at the time, and I were having a fight, something burned in the kitchen, and one of us cracked the door open to let the smoke out. She got out then. We didn't know she'd gotten out right then. She was missing for a week, and there was a field next to where I was living, so I thought she was just gone forever. But I put up flyers, went out calling, looking etc. At the end of a very long week, I was walking through a parking lot in the development, calling her, and heard a tiny little "mew?" I called again, same little "mew?" A little louder. I looked around, and there was a car that was covered up with a canvas covering. Looked under it, and there she was. Skinny, dirty, but alive. Boy did she get a good meal that night...I did have to give her a bath to get the car oil off of her.
We have a dog right now. I love cats though.

My parents had a Siamese named Simon too! Funny! Only theirs was not a nice cat. They sadly had to have him declawed. He passed away ... naturally but they think he has some sort of mental stability issues. He attacked for no reason. The Fr. whom my oldest brother was named after, was even attacked once. Poor creature!
Last year, my daughter and I adopted hehe the sweetest and craziest little Tuxedo cat, we call Figaro. Or Fig/Figgy. Love him. Great accidental mouser (didn't know we had them, thought maybe ... he confirmed it )
Id love to have another, but he's not overly friendly with other cats. Or well, the only time he had any interaction with one, was for a few seconds, with another male (who was fixed) when Fig, wasn't fixed. He's fixed now so maybe he might act differently ...
He's a right handsome fellow with the sweetest little face! Though this picture if it works might suggest otherwise as he looks super grumpy in it. It was after his first nail cutting and he got his nails capped (he sometimes thinks my daughter is his toy :P)

Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
I have one 7 pound, furry feline fury, Chibi. She's a Bengal tiger, and my vet says, the breed is the closest to primitive cats. Chibi is Japanese for runt. She's a little girl, smallest of the litter.
One time, I couldn't find her. I could hear her meowing, talking to me in the kitchen. I looked everywhere. Finally, I opened the silverware drawer, and there she was, stretched out over the forks, spoons, everything. She had crawled up, in, but couldn't get back out. I was so glad to find her. I did have a serious talk with her, while washing every spoon, fork, knife, etc I owned. She just gave me the kitty cat look----Moi! You're not talking about moi!

Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
I have a cat named Pushpa who is a Tortie. She's 16 and was recently diagnosed with renal failure. But the prescription food is doing wonders for her!
She was a rescue from a hospital where I was working and was about 3 weeks old when I found her. The intent was to re-home her after she grew up a little but she bonded so strongly with my border collie, I just couldn't do it. I think she still believes she's part dog. She will sit, shake hands and lay down for treats, but only if she's hungry and only if the treats are REALLY good. Yeah, she's a brat but I love her.
My cat before her was Chloe, a solid black beauty of a cat with fur like mink. She also was a rescue, at about the same age. She lived to be 21 1/2. One of the sweetest cats I've ever known.
The cat before her was Eightball (black with a white middle). She was also special in her own way. If you whispered to her, she would meow back in a whisper. My best friend used to drive her nuts with that. She lived to be 17, died from hyperthyroidism.
The cat before that was Marco, a long hair gray cat that gave honest to goodness hugs. If you held him up to your chest, he would reach around your neck with both front paws and lay his head against your neck/upper chest and squeeze. Such a lovable cat!!
Now the weird part of all this is that I'm really a dog person, not a cat person. I have no idea how I was steered off the dog road onto the kitty road but after Pushpa, it's back to dogs for me!

Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
I have a big, scraggly gray tabby. He was the neighborhood brute, chasing cats and dogs for fun it seemed. One day he got heat stroke and I gave him some water. At first he bit me, but after he drank some he let me get a bit closer. I set food out daily until he decided he would just adopt me! I named him McCavity, after the "Napolean of Crime" in the musical Cats..

Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
I also had a cat named Mole. I saw him being born, and named him when he couldn't see and was just bobbling around in the box with his siblings. He was solid gray with a tiny tuft of white on his chest.
I was living in an apartment with a roommate and I couldn't keep him with me, so my dad took him. Now, my dad was a farm boy, and cats were meant for the barn, so having a housecat was not something he really understood. But he and Mole bonded. They bonded so well that when I went back to get him after about a month, Mole was HUGE! Daddy had been feeding him scraps or whatever, until he was just so fat his belly almost dragged.
I had a small car and Mole got stuck underneath the front passenger seat as I drove him to my apartment. Took me quite a while to get him out without hurting him. I scolded my dad for making him so fat. Poor Daddy, he was all alone at that point, so Mole was his buddy.
Mole was lost, he was an indoor/outdoor cat and he never came home one night. I never had another cat that I let go out.

Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
I have a domestic shorthair named Minnie. She is a tuxedo cat who I acquired when I was in 8th grade; she was just 10 weeks old. Now she is four years old, but she is still soft, cute, and playful. She doesn't like strangers, but if she knows you well enough she is very friendly. She is an indoor cat, since indoor cats live longer.

Re: The Cat Lovers Thread
Mom2em, you have a very pretty cat!
But was he grumpy because he had gotten his nails clipped and capped or because he was forced to wear a sweater?
I'm not sure if anyone else has heard the news, but Austria has recently gotten its first cat cafe. Such businesses have been very popular in Japan. They allow patrons to come for refreshments and then relax in the company of multiple free roaming cats. People who go there may spend hours watching, petting and playing with the cats. The cafes are especially valuable for cat-deprived persons who can not have them at home (allergies, apartment regulations, frequent travel etc)
Here are two photos from inside the recently opened Cafe Neko in Vienna. There is no word when other parts of the civilized world will adopt this supremely wonderful idea.

And then I had to put him on a diet! OH, you should have heard the cries!!! "MOM! I'm STARVING HERE!!!" (Repeat ad nauseum, all day, every day, for a month...)
Heck, for all I know, he packed his little kitty bags and tried to get back to my dad's house...maybe someone took him in along the way and he lived to a ripe and chubby old age!
