Re: Meet and Greet # 88
Hi, I am new here! I am a Protestant that has been reading a lot about Catholicism and I am very interested in learning more. I am a married mother of 4. I have NO Catholics in my family or my husband's so I do worry what will happen if I choose to convert. Thanks for letting me lurk and learn in this community.

Re: Meet and Greet # 88
Hello!
I am happy to find a forum to learn more about my faith. I have been a Catholic all my life and went to parochial school. When I moved to an area with only a few Catholics, I had a lot of thinking about the religion...social versus tenets of faith. I am longing to learn more about Jesus and the bible and today I am especially interested in the Catholic belief of heaven. Thanks.

Re:Heterodoxy a way of life at parish!
Peace be with you all,
I'm finding myself in the midst of a modern day tragedy at my parish. We're a very divided parish that some would fit perfectly with Anglecan theology. I constantly mistified who people with such different thinking can call themselves RC if they don't believe in the Magisterium? We have a pastoral associate who aspouses militant femminism, doesn't believe in baptism until her G-daughter can be a priestest in the church, same-sex marriage is fine, HHS mandate is good, etc...why do they stay?
Yours in Christ.

Hi...I am new. It is nice to find this place and meet you. I don't like to spend a lot of time online (I have two kids!), but it is very difficult to find committed Catholics where I live, and I find myself with many questions about married life as a Roman Catholic. So, thanks for letting me be here and in advance for any homework help I receive here. :-)

I was raised in a church with a mostly older population. For a period of time I was simply just "going through the motions." It was not until I was going through the process of being confirmed during my junior year of high school fully embraced my religion and started a deeper relationship with God. I had my eyes opened during my confirmation retreat.
I have had the opportunity to attend the several very large catholic youth conferences. It is so awesome to see so many other young Catholics excited about their faith. Since starting at my Catholic college I've gotten to meet so many other Catholics excited about their faith. It is such a wonderful thing to see! One thing that I believe that the church needs to focus on my is the way the church approaches young people. Six months ago, I had the opportunity to lead on a confirmation retreat for youth from my church. On this retreat I saw so many young people who were in the same place that I was, just going through the motions. They had the outlook that you do A, B, and C and than your good. They completely missed the point of the importance of your relationship with God. Since the Catholic church has so many rituals, to young people who don't understand them, the catholic church can seem very repetitive and mundane. I think that we need to focus on explaining things on their level so that they understand why we do what we do.
Well that is a little bit about where I am at!

i totally agree w/ you 100% .the church has fogotten the spiritual needs pf the youth.i oftern overheard the outh or young adults saying ,the homily is baded from centuries ago, whilts in the protestant services, sermns are based on contmporary themes, that when you walk out the door, one can applly it. to his daily life.

Hi Paul!!!
Thank you for joining us and sharing with us!!!
The Catholic Church is generally pretty specific about beliefs and doctrines and it sounds like that may not be the case in your parish!! I think you will enjoy the serious, solid teaching here. You might like the apologetics forum or the In the News forum or others!!!
May God pour out his wisdom and guidance upon you and your parish, and lead the parish with His Holy Spirit into God's grace and holiness!!!
Bruce

Hello Regina!!
It is nice to have you join this place (Catholic Answers Forums).

May God continue to bless you and your family; may He give you wisdom and strength to be an effective mother; and may he pour out his love, grace, joy and peace upon you and your family!!!

Hi! I'm 26 years old and still a protestant; however I hope to be baptized as a Roman Catholic next Easter. I am now currently studying the Catechism of the Catholic Church in preparation for the Baptism.
