Prayer request: Gay Porn, masturbation, sloth, laziness, manhood, yadda yadda yadda

Hi. Since lent this year, I've been under attack by temptation of a form of male porn, fuled by a fetish which in turn fuels homosexual urges and masturbation. My sexuality is so messed up. I was brought up to see looking at a girl the wrong way as wrong, so instinct causes me to automatically put up defence only when that crosses my thoughts, meaning that homosexual lust sneaks in so easily. I have been doing this maybe two or three times per week. I want to stop.

Also, I seem to have no drive to work. I'm honestly the laziest, maybe second laziest person I know. I want to want to(not a typo) work hard and be a man, but I seem to have no drive. And my prayer life is nearly nonexistent, I need prayer to help me jumpstart it.

Please, I need prayer. The first paragraph details what destroys my identity as a man, and the second shows how little I feel like working towards manhood. I'm no man, that would imply strength and maturity, nor am I a child, that would imply innocence. I'm 18 years old, and I am sick of being in this position of immaturity, laziness, and perversion.

Also, it's gone to the point where I'm desensitized to it. It's hard for me to even feel sorry for it, and I'm never sure if I'm truly apologetic.

What kind of man do you want to be? Fake it 'til you make it....

If you want to be a go-getter get up and go! etc. You know the drill.

The trick is to act despite your feelings. No matter how you feel DO what needs to be done.

Eventually you will feel better (and feel better about yourself) as you become the man you want to be.

Another trick is that if you want to feel better, help others feel better.

You know this, you just don't "feel" this.

Feel the sloth, idleness etc., and get off your arse anyway!

Get away from a computer or always use it in a public place. Keep yourself away from sin by avoiding near occasions of sin.

In my opinion, you need to develop a strong, habitual prayer life and you will find the motivation that you need to turn away from sin and become that man you "want to want to" be!

On Sunday, our priest was talking about how, in order to be able to love ourselves and others the way God loves us, we need to first recieve that love through God. How do we recieve that love? Well, we recieve it through the eucharist, fasting, adoration, and prayer!!!

Given the fact that you seem to have motivational issues, I strongly recommend that you set aside a fixed time every day for prayer. We should never get in the mentality of praying only when "we feel like it" because satan's temptations are strong and can seriously influence what we percieve our desires to be. While praying when we desire to pray is certainly good idea as well, we should also all have a set time each day for prayer (I recommend praying a complete rosary each day...a few decades in the morning and the rest before you go to bed at night).

Once you start to recieve God's love through devoted prayer, I'm quite sure that you will find the wall's of spiritual sloth coming apart quite quickly .

Pray to St. Joseph. He will help you. I will remember your intentions whenever I can, and pray for God's assistance at morning Mass when I receive Communion. Also, listen to the advice of your confessor, and go to Mass as often as you can. Listen to the Word of God. I will pray for you. Focus on God. Even when you speak or pray, emphasize the words the refer directly to God. But go to St. Joseph. He will obtain God's assistance for you, and probably help you a great deal in overcoming the pornography, laziness, and "unmanliness" problems. Remember, real men go to God, so you have taken the first step. Real men know that they need God, so rely on him. If you have a parish with perpetual adoration, visit Jesus and talk and meditate with Him there in the Blessed Sacrament. I will pray for you. Pray for me too, OK?

Check out a faith based 12 step group such as sex and love addicts anonymous, or sex addicts anonymous and see if there methods help. You might find the support of people healing from the same or similar problem helpful. These groups are there to help with this sort of thing.

Do you have a relationship with a trusted priest? If so, you might get some helpful advice there.
