If my understanding is correct, officers are trained to shoot 3 rounds when they discharge their weapon. Thus if more than one officer was shooting, it really wouldn't take that much to get that many rounds off. Or if the person was on a drug (as it appears to be the case) it might have taken that many rounds just to stop him.

Like? Dude, that IS a zombie!

Oh noes! Zombies are real! Run for your lives ! D8>
With zombies you can stroll. They have a movement disorder, Zombieitis Movementotitus which inhibits their forward locomotion, and is characterized by a stiffness of joints, and a growling emotional affect.

Zombies are not hard to kill. They are already dead! Duh!

But they can be hard to "stop". Law enforcement uses the parlance of "stopping" someone with multiple rounds to the center of mass. But in suicide bomber situations, you shoot for the face to not detonate anything, which does not stop a zombie.

I thought I read, somewhere along the line, that a shot through the brain causes death instantaneously, and a shot to the heart within several seconds, but that's probably referring to so-called zombies, and not real ones, and probably assumes a clean shot with a reasonable caliber bullet. I guess the cops couldn't get a clean shot first try.

So we couldn't expect a shot to drop them from pain, but if the cops were using hollow points, you would think there would be some fatal major organ damage, but then, they probably didn't want to wait a half a minute for the damage to take effect, and so took several shots until they got a direct hit to the heart or brain, or major hemorrhaging.

I stumbled onto the actual photos of the crime by accident and I am SCARRED FOR LIFE. I seriously cannot get those images out of my head. And I'm not one of those squeamish types...but the man's face was GONE.

I think snipers are different and only found in the armed forces. I think SWAT people are called 'marksmen' or 'sharpshooters'. I think.

No, not correct at all. To clarify for everyone, police are not trained to fire a certain number of shots, are not trained to shoot to injure someone, and are also not trained to shoot to kill someone. Police are trained to shoot to stop a threat, however many shots it takes, which may or may not result in the suspect's death. If a suspect is a lethal threat, I'm going to shoot them until they no longer pose a lethal threat. That may take only one shot, or it may take 7, like in this case. They may end up dead or they may end up injured. Center mass is the area police are trained to aim for most often, since it is the largest and easiest to hit.

The reason it took 7 shots to put this guy down is probably because he didn't feel them because of the drug use. Unless the shot is to the head (essentially turning off the computer, so to speak), people can fight through shots to the body or limbs, even to the heart, until they bleed out. I don't know what areas the suspect was hit in this case.

And yes, SWAT teams do call their sharpshooters "snipers".

Its too sick to include all the details, just do a news search of "Luka Rocco Magnotta".

Lord, protect us!

Actually the way it sounds, I'm not sure I'd even want to survive.
