Like I said, they are minor agenda intrusions easily caught with a properly functioning catholic moral filter.

Not sure if the writers were serious about the connection between Captain Jack and The Face of Boe. In the Doctor Who episodes he is portray as con man who is redeemed by his association with The Doctor. He is not really a bit player as he transitions into the series Torchwood -- which has it's origins in Doctor Who.

He has had male companions. Adric is the only one who comes to mind. (I hope I'm spelling that correctly.)

Re: Doctor Who. Is it a good show?
I was speaking about the companions in the new series - Since Christopher Eccelston began as the Doctor in BBC's revived series.
He has had one two male companions during this time - Mickey: who was the boyfriend of Rose. Also Amy Pond's husband in the latest series with Matt Smith (I love Matt as the Doctor).

Re: Doctor Who. Is it a good show?
I've watched it since 1966, when we got a telly for the first time and have loved it ever since!
When I heard they were reviving it I was a bit sceptical, but Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith have all been excellent, and the script writers too.
I'm now in my 50s and still look forward to watching it!

Amy's boyfriend/later-husband (maybe that's a spoiler? Oh well) Rory was pretty cool actually. He was much more interesting then Amy.
Don't get me started on River though. I'm pretty sure she's just Moffat's Mary Sue character. I hope she doesn't have to come back anymore (ever preferably).

Re: Doctor Who. Is it a good show?
Regarding the show, I'm going to quote the Ninth doctor; Fantastic!
It's a great show, probably my favourite. The actors who play the Doctor are brilliant. If you plan on starting to watch the show, start with the first episode of the rebooted series with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor

I'd do that, but also go back and pick one or two of the classic Doctor Who episodes to watch just to give a bit of extra scope to some of the reboot's episodes.
I do the same with Star Trek, although truth be told, The Original Series is by far the best anyway.

Jamie , the Scottish companion of the second Doctor who eventually had his memory of his time with the Doctor removed by the Time Lords is another one. Also, when the Doctor first appeared two teachers travelled with him, one whom (Ian Chesterton) was male. The Doctor also had an android called Kamelion travel with for a bit who was constructed by the Master originally. Although they never really used that character to their full potential.

Not to be a killjoy, but this is part of what I meant about keeping your catholic filters up while watching. Who is like almost all other modern media in that the unspoken underlying assumption is one of defacto atheism. God is irrelevant, at most. Theater and film work best by inviting audiences to identify with characters. Be careful identifying with characters with a worldview in which God is superflous or nonexistent. That's not advice unique to this show, but to ALL shows.
The way to enjoy it is to NOT personally identify with the characters, but to be a present observer. It's admittedly less fun, but necessary to avoid becoming just another lemming in our larger culture.
