Surgery to correct a defect is fine, but I have to agree with Bobbi Brown on most instances.

Awsome for her! I hate how women think that aging is such a curse. I see it with my mom and it drives me nuts. The only reason she hasn't had any work done is because everytime she has mentioned it, I told her that if she ever does that I'll come home with a lip ring. She is beautiful thw way she is and looks amazing for her age, but she is pi headed and can't see anything but flaws.

I had a breast reduction done last year. BEST thing I have ever done. I was so physically miserable for so long. Yes, it was a physical issue but I hate. d the way I looked, also. I am so relieved to look normal now. Of course, I feel better physically but I'm just as excited and relieved to look and feel like a real woman again.

The only other plastic surgery I would even consider would be some lipo on my belly. Other than that, I don't care about aging. Doesn't bother me that much. I look at it as getting one day closer to seeing Jesus.

Fwiw, my neighbor had breast augmentation and I think she looks ridiculous. It's obvious by looking at her that she had it done and it just doesn't look natural on her body frame.

Just a warning. I have hereditary neuropathy, and if you follow peripheral neuropathy forums the things that can go wrong as a result of cosmetic surgery and Botox injections, etc, are sobering. Do you really want to risk permanent nerve damage for the sake of what is basically a losing proposition? We all undergo a big change in our appearance once we hit the mid to late forties. This topic is taken much too lightly in my opinion.

I remember having electrolisys done (this was way before laser hair removal existed) and people laughing at me. I was a student and they couldn't understand me spending all that money. Well...... I am happy I did it. I realize it is not nearly as drastic and risky as surgery but nonetheless for vanity reasons.

I use a lot of creams on my face and worry. I am 42 and look much younger than my age, but I know my luck could run out any day and I will age over night.

I have had grey hair since my 20s which I die. I have thin hair and I need to use salon products because cheaper products where making me bald.

The other thing I would LOVE to find a cure for is age spots. I have some on my face and arms and they make me want to only wear long sleeves. Admitedly they are not that bad or pronounced yet, but they still make me want to vomit.

I always flip between opinions. Sometimes I think I deserve to look my best, other times I think why am I so concerned about something as superficial as meeting societies standards of good looks. I once heard a black man make a very good point. He said 'Why is it the whites who spend so much money going down south and so much time in the sun to tan are the same people who make fun of Micheal Jackson for becoming more white' Whatever happend to accepting God's will to create us the way he wanted us.

But this is one thing I wish I would keep in mind more. I work with a women who is well over 50. She has a body most 30 year old women would kill for. And it looks totally natural and healthy. She also has beautiful long blond hair and looks young for her age. It is 100% natural and she looks awesome. This is the same woman who told me 'Turning 39 was the worst year of my life. That is the year my husband told me about his long term affair' Just goes to show, being good looking does not guarantee happiness

Absolutely! Plastic surgery is so easy to spot.

I'm turning 36 and keep looking at lines around my mouth. Suddenly they seem so pronounced. It bothers me. But accepting the ageing process is necessary if we want to have a healthy attitude towards ourselves. People who refuse to do that are very unhappy and even a bit pathetic in my opinion. My father, a plastic surgeon, and his wife are living proof of this. They look like caricatures of themselves, with constant botox, fillers and whatnot being regularly done. Sad.

That said, I had a breast reduction years ago and that was a great decision. I could do sports, wear nice clothes and buy bras from 'normal' shops (rather than super size underwear shops). I've never regretted it.

I think most women have random thoughts about cosmetic surgery, or at least botox or filler injections. But that other stuff - collagen, etc. - comes from human corpses and I'm not putting someone else's body elements into mine!

I have a friend who has been getting Restalayne injections for a while...She has no wrinkles any more, while I have plenty. She looks good, but in a weird sort of way. I mean, it's not actual surgery but there still is a fakeness to it, I guess because her face doesn't have the expressiveness of a face that isn't getting filled/paralyzed. I feel old when I'm out with her, though.

I don't think I would ever have surgery. I hate anesthetic and usually react badly to it, and to take the sort of risks involved and go through the recovery process just is not appealing. I think that dwelling on appearance is a character defect in the first place.

It's my soul that matters, this body will stay here on Earth. The only way to make my soul more beautiful is to grow closer to Christ. No surgeon's knife can do that!

I am another woman who is post-reduction surgery--I went from being an H (yes, H) cup to something that looks proportionate on my body. As an extra plus, pre-surgery I had very fibrocystic breasts and of the 2 pounds of tissue that was removed, pretty much every hard lump I used to have in there is gone. It makes my self-exam *so* much easier.

In addition to all the physical problems that being too large produced (the backache, the "shoulder dent"), I also hated the way I looked and had a horrible time buying clothing. One of the first things I bought after surgery was a simple button-down blouse--because for the first time since 6th grade I could wear one buttoned up with the shoulder seam sitting on my shoulders instead of halfway to my elbows (because I had to buy so big to get over the breasts while swimming everywhere else).

But the wrinkle-removing stuff--no thanks. Wrinkles, when I get them, will simply show that I have lived (and how--you can tell the face of someone who grumped their way through life from that of someone who was pleasant all along). I'm also starting to get gray hair--or, as I like to call it, silver. My grandfather had a full head of this color, and I always said that I hoped I got the silver hair gene (it really is shiny)--and I did. No way am I covering that up.

I too am not too worried about wrinkles. Perhaps I'll try some professional lotions or phototherapy or something, but no facelift or botox, thank you. I am more concerned now about the changes pregnancy will make on my body...

Was the surgery/recovery very painful?
The surgery took 5 hours, which surprised my doctor, and most of that was getting the inside straight; he said he'd never seen such a crooked septum. I remember being nauseous after the anesthesia, and having to stay home for about a week, as I looked as if I'd been beaten about the face. There was some swelling for a while, and black eyes, but they wore off; Dermablend was my friend. To be honest, I was so thrilled to be able to have the surgery that I wouldn't have cared what the recovery was like!

I really don't remember any post-operative pain - just stuffiness.

The only reason I was able to have the surgery was because it was a fresh injury that did the damage, and we had been continuously covered by insurance. They look VERY carefully at this type of procedure; the insurance company even called wondering if there was someone else to blame, so that they could try to recover the cost! Sorry, just klutzy me, I told them.

Do muscles always separate on the abdomen when you're pregnant? You're scaring me...
I had water retention problems (toxemia) and gain a ton of weight in the belly. So weight gain went up fast and down fast. I gained about 60lbs during the pregnancy and lost 50 of it after I delivered. I was asked by people if I was having triplets LOL! Hard to not stretch the skin and muscles.

The muscle repair is the worse part. It is extremely painful. Worse than my c-sections. But worth it.

Your lucky. Breastfeeding four kids took its toll. I was a DD before my pregnancies and am now between a C/D. So I definitely wanted a lift. I like having smaller breast. That was positive.

Couldn't fix the bigger feet. My feet went up 1/2 size LOL!

I would not do anything to my face. Face lifts look fake to me. I would rather age gracefully.
This kind of thing is what I've thought about too. I've never considered face lift type things but I've wondered, if we some day have a surplus of money and I've been pregnant and breastfeeding non-stop for however many years, just getting things lifted, reconstructed (especially the part of my abdomen that keeps getting cut open with each c-section... is there a surgery where they fix the little shelf that often happens after c-sections, where the incision was, that is there no matter what I do?!?!). I wouldn't think of doing anything while we're still able to have more, but someday... just having my stomach put back together and things lifted after nursing for so many years? The thought has crossed my mind occasionally (usually when I've lost the pregnancy weight, notice how everything's changed a little more, although this is usually around when I find out I'm pregnant again too!).

And maybe someday I'll get my nose fixed. It got broken quite a few times playing rugby. And a few times just being clumsy and it's a little croaked on the outside and pretty damaged on the inside now. I went to a specialist in college who said I needed surgery, but that he wouldn't do it until I'd sworn off full contact sports forever. I have, but I'm so clumsy I'm afraid I'll just keep breaking it, even without sports...

Those are the ideas I've toyed with... Now whether I'll ever actually act on them...
