I fear God and i want to honor him and show him that i love and respect him, but my anxiety has been very haunting with i guess 4 years. So i've been concerned with my future, my life, and if my dreams will get shattered due to my emotional state.
So with in these years, i've encountered a priest who does blessings and also is known to have the ability to read allot of hidden issues of a person. He read me, and everything he said about me was right.
However, i've been raised in a catholic and a protestant like household so i hold skepticm towards these things.
Now, just today, i went to a psychic because i am distressed and the moment i said hi to her, she new every single thing about me (my issues) and my family issues.. The issues, hopes and what's on the minds of my parents. Every single thing she told me was accurate and i never said anything or gave any description. Sure, as regular Psychics, she gave future readings, and i'm planning to take my masters, and one of her readings was that i'm going to back to school in the future and gave me the reasons why i want to. She never denied God, she said that one of the things i need is an enlightenment from God.I need faith. However she also offers me spiritual healing (i'm still thinking of it) which brings me here. I am scared about myself, you know i've lost someone who i love so much and for some reason i'm hated by her, and i've been betrayed by her. I'm also in search and working as hard for a good happiness, praying for the last 6-4 years but still end up in this distress. I'm not saying God doesn't answer my prayers, a part of me feels he led me to this person but then again, my bible knowledge is that Psychics are not acceptable to us christians.
I don't care if you don't believe in Psychics, i'm still skepticle as it is, but i honestly say that her knowing all this and the secrets of my parents were genuinely right. I'm a bit tempted to go back to her for the healing but at the same time i feel like it's wrong still... however maybe there are people that are given these gifts to help others. I mean some christians think it's wrong because it's like denying God and not trusting him because God holds your future and is the one who is all knowing, but if that's the case then should Christians look down upon medical doctors as well, since they can cure the sick through their ability, why trust Doctors with a persons life when God is the only one with authority of life and death? I'm not sure if this premise makes sense. I do want to hear intelligent views on Psychics, Psychic healings. I may go through with this but at the same time, i don't want to lose God's respect or be seen as a man who doesn't trust god but is this God's way of helping me through people he has given gifts to?
I don't know.. thank you for the responses.

Consulting a psychic will only distance you from God and it sounds that in this time of your life you really need Him. When I am challenged by life it is when I run to Our Lord Jesus and Our Blessed Mother Mary and implore them come to my aid. I am strengthened by the Sacraments, prayer, Mass and Adoration. These things I recommend.
It wasn't always this way due to my ignorance of my faith, but, then I read what the CCC states and I lived by it and I was freed. I use to consult psychics, or have a gypsy read my hand and read the horoscope but learned and it is liberating.
The CCC states:
2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another's credulity.

The Psychic knows things she shouldn't - that isn't a natural ability.
She claims to see the future - this isn't natural either.
No matter how accurate what she says is, you have to consider the source. It might seem very good, it might seem helpful but it is not of God.
Turn your back on these false forms of comfort and cling to our Lord. It won't be easy. He warns us that the path will be difficult, but if you cling to Him you will come out as a child that has roughed the fire and is now golden.
Interesting little anecdote but I know a lady who went to a 'psychic' but she was praying the whole time because she was uncertain. The woman ordered her to stop praying because as long as my friend was praying she couldn't see anything. I thought that was very telling.

I am asking where does it come from, i am a very skeptical person but in all honesty, it baffles me how accurate her description of my problems, thoughts, and even my parents where. She never denounced God/Christ and claimed that God's enlightenment is the only thing i need. I don't know.

Their information comes from the dark side. The intelligence of the fallen angels is higher than ours, and they spread around their information.
Satan is defeated by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ok, i've been praying for years and i continue but i'm am confused on what is wrong and what is right to him. I am afraid of being distant from God but apart of me feels that my God does give these gifts to people just like he gives certain gifts/talents to others. I've known people who have the sixth sense/3rd eye who claim to see spirits and they are seriously devoted people, that gift is a supernatural gift that they were born with. Even though the major of people look down on Psychics why are they classed immediately as evil/ungodly? That is just one thought in my head, but of course my skepticism and fear does get in the way.

If that's all she said, that you need God's enlightenment, fine. Take that as a piece of good advice. But, as soon as some kind of healing from a psychic, rather than the Word of God and the Sacraments, are suggested, you are not simply talking about receiving the love of God. You would be subjecting yourself to who knows what?
"For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, who masquerade as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light." (2 Cor. 11:13-14)
That's why you are being urged to be so careful. Rarely do evil influences claim to be satanic. Most people acting as psychics will not claim to be acting with the power of demons. Some may not even be aware that they are. But the devil is very good at what he does. So, if he is able to give someone power to see into your life, and to sound somewhat "godly", with the end result of you putting your trust in a power that is not God, OF COURSE he would.
I continue to pray for you. I think the fact that you've even asked the question is good, I think you are more than skeptical. I think your Christian background has made you aware that there is something not right about this. God bless you in your struggles and lead you to Himself.
In Christ through Mary,
Frank

Re: Your thoughts on Psychics (important answers)
God's Word is pretty clear on this:
Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.
- Leviticus 19:31
Easy enough. But we can also see that God views it as evil when Mannasseh turned to them:
He made his son pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and used divination, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD provoking Him to anger.
- 2 Kings 21:6
Prophets were not psychics. Nor are psychics prophets. Please don't align the 2.

I appreciate the replies, forgive me for the slight arguing i'm just really curious if it really is wrong or if the accusations of it being demonic (no exceptions) are just part of "heard" mentality.

It is not part of the "herd" mentality. It is a warning from the Lord Himself.
Holy people and priests who are solid in the Church and obedient to the Magisterium can have gifts of the Holy Spirit that can glorify God when shared.
There are books about Catholics and Christians who have gotten tied up with the occult by their curiosity. It was a long and painful road for them to finally be freed. One of the books you may want to google about is this one:
"Ransomed from Darkness" by Moira Noonan

The Bible tells us it is wrong, and it is sinful to consult psychics. In Leviticus, through to Maccabees, in the Gospels and in the Epistles.
The Church has taught this from the earliest days of the Fathers of the Church, to the Catechism which someone else quoted earlier.
This is an infallible statement of the bible repeated many times by the Magisterium:
Consulting with Psychics is a grave sin.
To do so deliberately, knowing that the church says this makes it a mortal sin.
The Evil one places many traps in our way.
Some people believe themselves to be Psychics. Most are frauds or delusional. A very few are open to spiritual influences which do not come from The Lord. therefore they are demonic.
I know a priest who frequently amazes members of his congregation by what he appears to know about them: He is simply very astute and more in touch with the people in his care than most of them realise.
He is very good at making "educated guesses", reading between the lines from what other members of the community tell him, and very good at observing the queues that the individual people give off. - He never claimed that his talent was in any way supernatural. though some of the community asked me if something "odd" was going on. - He is I believe, a very Holy man. He reaps a great harvest for the Lord.
Search the internet for a British Hypnotist / magician called Derren Brown... he thoroughly debunks many of the methods used by Psychics, and replicates many of their tricks. Some of the secrets he shares, others he leaves his audience wondering at.... but he is very clear these are fancy stage tricks that he can and does teach others how to use. - again for show.
Prophesy is something different. It comes from God. It comes through the Church. It encourages the faithful to seek God. It rarely (probably never) makes personal details about an individual.
I suspect that there are many members of the Charismatic communities who believe they have the "Gift of Prophesy" who are simply learning how to use their intuition, and being encouraging to those around them.
Do not place too much emphasis on these things - they are NOT essential for your salvation.

Thanks, the problem with 2 kings and most of the stuff in the bible only speak against Psychics who use their abilities for their own gain or ungodly sponsoring (intentionally).
I mean i recall i think in 1st John that we are supposed to test the spirits whether it is from God. If the person denounces that Christ came in the flesh, then it's not of God. But what about the Psychics who really give god, faith as their advice?
You see, i've met two Psychics.. one was a priest and the latest was an old woman. The priest never did future readings, he just placed his hand on you and told you immediately what your problems where (with out saying a word), the priest here is famous in this country due to his 3rd eye (blessing homes, seeing ghosts, and being able to read what is in the person) the woman on the other hand was a genuine Psychic who is Catholic, she never talked to spirits nor did she close her eyes, use candles, or any form of concentration... none like that, the psychic just looked at me normally the moment i sat down infront of her and told me every single personal problem i have, including the secrets of my parents. She knew it.
She doesn't communicate with the dead, because in her words it's wrong and dangerous But yes she did do the same palm reading and future talk -- what she sees will happen in my life, but according to her it will always be my decision and above all i need to have God's guidance/enlightenment.
What about those people, is it right to deny that maybe god does give gifts to some people in order to help others because that's what she does and she does not discredit God from her clients. The only thing that scares me is that she offered a psychic healing, according to her, there is prayers to god in the healing... and is to help me loosen the anxiety in my head and help me with wisdom or something like that. But ya, i am not as confident in that... i still feel skeptical on that stuff and it's like degrading but at the same time, i've tried psychologists... they are too expensive and nothing really happened. When i got my reading from the priest, he told me that i had a spell on me and when a person has a spell on him then a spirit is assigned to him. He didn't tell me what to do at all though but just see more often. Now from what i've heard, priests like him do those healings however they do it under God's name, just like an exorcism or something like that. My point is, are we really sure that all this should be classified as satanic even if the person (The Psychic) is believer of christ?
Aren't our souls like a mini-version of God? Which is why we have a morality, it's part in our souls, while our spirit is our energy/life force.. our Souls do contain our past, present, and maybe future and the greater power (God) surpasses all time. Maybe some people see the energy of a person and have the gift to sense our souls to help us in our minds. I'm just passing on a new thought... i respect any posts.

Re: Your thoughts on Psychics (important answers)
Reliance on psychics is a form of divination which is forbidden by the Church (and was even forbidden during ancient Christianity), as it violates seriously the First Commandment.
This was also the topic of yesterday's EWTN Mass homily. It's a form of substitution of faith in God with faith in powers that compete with God.

Re: Your thoughts on Psychics (important answers)
The woman can be deluded if she is practicing what she is. Reading palms is a big red flag.
Just because she mentioned God and faith does not mean it is okay. And, it is also possible that she herself is not aware that she has been deceived.

The thing is that I see nothing in Scripture that backs up psychic work as Godly or profitable. All mention of mediums/spiritists/psychics is negative as far as I can tell and spoken against by God and His prophets.
When they say to you, “ Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?
- Isaiah 8:19
And just because a person claims belief in Christ, that does not affirm their behavior, as "the demons also believe, and shudder" (James 2:19). Even believers can be deceived into some pretty evil stuff.
I'm just saying to be extremely cautious around people like this. They can and will tell you things that will impress you but ultimately they could be speaking by an evil spirit.

Hello C_Del86,
I understand your question and concern and I can answer it. However, I am a little pressed for time and am using a laptop to type which is a bit uncomfortable. I will be back to expand on my answer at some point.
In the meantime, I want to let you know that I was born with what I understood to be psychic powers and I dreamed the future and still do. That is, I would have futuristic dreams and my friends and family and relatives have been witnesses to them. I no longer share them as I have come closer and closer to the Church.
I have come to understand that it is a gift from God. What is wrong when indeed it is a gift and not that a person is actually trying to get Satan and demons to assist or is just a plain fraud; is when people use it wrongly. An obstacle to understand is the name 'psychic powers' it is not a power of the psyche.
I leave you with Paul:
1Now in regard to spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware. 2* You know how, when you were pagans, you were constantly attracted and led away to mute idols.a 3Therefore, I tell you that nobody speaking by the spirit of God says, “Jesus be accursed.” And no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the holy Spirit.b
4* There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;c 5there are different forms of service but the same Lord; 6there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. 7To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. 8To one is given through the Spirit the expression of wisdom; to another the expression of knowledge according to the same Spirit;d 9to another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit; 10to another mighty deeds; to another prophecy; to another discernment of spirits; to another varieties of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues.e 11But one and the same Spirit produces all of these, distributing them individually to each person as he wishes.
Peace,
Abba
