Who says I want to concentrate on these things. I am merely pointing out that a correct understanding of the Eucharist allows for things like this to happen as well as wonderful miracles.

To trivialize the Eucharist is not the correct understanding of it.

Contamination happens. Which as Digitonomy mentioned a pall is used over the chalice to prevent flies and spiders, or why old hosts can mold, etc.
Awesome explanations. Just last week in the apologetic forum they said recovering alcoholics should not drink the wine due to a chance of stirring up cravings.

Or this Hep A scare? (I don't know if this is the one I remember or not, the one I remember the priest got sick, but I may be mistaken).

There is no reason to think that if I have a cold and wipe my snot on a consecrated host and then you receive it, that you could not get my cold. Why is it any different for microscopic bacteria and germs that might get on either the species or the vessels?

what i am talking about is someone's saliva carrying germs touching the rim of the chalice when they drink and perhaps even though they wipe the chalice with the cloth, some germs still remain to make someone else sick. to Constatine, faith can heal, but faith cannot prevent all illnesses. perhaps the chances are slim, but if there is a really bad flu bug going around, i would prefer not taking the chance of getting sick. i am not able to have a flu shot because of a previous health condition.
