Default Demon Hunter band

So I've been somewhat familiar with Demon Hunter for a very long time, but just recently have been reintroduced to their music by a friend of mine. Also apparently they are coming to NC not too far away from me and he is planning to go see them live.

Their music speaks to me in a way that not many other groups/bands do and that is special for me as I only find a few artists that I experience this with from time to time. I enjoy this type of music and also find it refreshing to see that the group is Christian. I've also heard that the lead singer and maybe a couple of the other members are Catholic? Anyone know if this is true or have a source for this? I've noticed Catholic imagery in several of their music videos (rosaries, medals, a vid filmed in a Catholic Church, even with a Priest in the vid).

I just ordered the "Death a Destination" cd compilation that has their first 3 albums in one package so I am very excited! Any other fans out there? And can anyone verify that some of them are indeed Catholic? Thanks!

~Josh

Two of the members have mentioned growing up in a Christian household and going to Bible Camp, so I can't say whether they're Catholic but two of them at least grew up Christian.

I've seen a few videos, more along my tastes when I'm in the mood - funny how mellow you get with age, this morning I was listening to a CD by the Tallis Scholars of medieval motets, high liturgical vocal music. You know the Steak & Shake commercial with the stonecrafter? The song playing is their rendition of "Miserere".

But right now I'm listening to Psychotica's self-titled release.

ha! I'm right there with you! I was listening to gregorian chant by benedictine monks as well as The Priests debut cd on my way to work. Listened to Demon Hunter for hours last night though.

If not Catholic, they are at the very least friendly to Catholic spirituality... The undertones are certainly there.

Here is an interesting slap in the head toward secular humanism right now off of the newest album True Defiance.

"Crucifix"

We will trample on our children til this world is flooded red!
No boundary for depravity,
No silence for the dead.
Now weep for the life that you've lead

We will sonocrete our choices into a shallow grave,
Reinvigorate the vices of some self consuming slave.

Now pay for the Hell that you praise.
Every curse like violation of our lives,
Every careless shallow breath corruption of our minds.

All the blood and the shame,
Defamation of name,
The weight of a wicked world!

Embodied on a thankless
Crucifix.

Embodied on a blood-soaked
Crucifix.
Crucifix.

The sacrament is broken, and all I see is red,
The Idols of Humanity they tower overhead.
Now weep for the life that you've lead
The gates have severed open, setting death upon this place
Compelling us to hope in a revolting human race
Now weep for the life that you've lead.

[Chorus:]
Every curse, lie, violation of our lives,
Every careless error breath, corruption of our minds.

All the blood and the shame,
Defamation of name,
The weight of a wicked world!

Embodied on a thankless
Crucifix.

Embodied on a blood-soaked
Crucifix.
Crucifix.

THINE EYES, HAVE, SEEN.

Sometimes I close my eyes to escape this crooked place.
It seems these fools... well, they never learn.
I guess it's easy to see the world the way I do,
The emptiness is a promise, the sin is just the proof.

Embodied on a thankless
Crucifix.
Crucifix.

THINE EYES, HAVE, SEEN.

Don't know of too many other folks outside the Catholic/Orthodox spirituality that would point out the spiritual value of the Crucifix as Demon has just done here....

Yes! I just picked up this cd Saturday and am really enjoying it. I definitely agree with this song's message. It would have to be written by someone at least friendly to Catholic or Orthodox Spirituality. Also the artwork on the disc itself is nothing but a very clear picture of a Rosary, complete with a Blessed Mother center.

The video for the song "Undying" is pretty blatantly Catholic as well, the members even do the sign of the cross with Holy Water at the beginning of the video, and of course there is a Catholic priest ministering to those in the Church.
