The way you capitalize every word makes it very hard to read your post.

I think it is possible to be spiritual and religious. The two things are different sides of the same coin. Spirituality is an interior yearning and searching for God. Religion is the physical manifestation of the spirituality.

One follows necessarily into the other, it isn't a possibility so much as a necessity.

- I do think your definition of "religious" is bordering on newage though.

I think we have definition issues here.

Dogma and beliefs are just as much religion as rituals. I don't know why that is about spirituality. The Bible says very clearly that you can be an expert at all of that, and spiritually it means nothing.

Spirituality is when a person grows the fruit of the spirit. That does not imply a religion. Religion is supposed to point us toward advanced spirituality. It is supposed to help us get our mind together so we can develop and enjoy spirituality.

To say that religion IS spirituality is idolatry toward that religion. We are know spiritual because of our beliefs and knowledge -- we are RELIGIOUS because of our beliefs and knowledge. We are spiritual as shown by our love, patience, peace, and the other fruit. And when you say religion is how we observe our faith, I'd rather say religion is how we seek our faith. Our faith is demonstrated in our works toward others, not our knowledge of ritual.

But to answer the OP question, yes, one can be both religious and spiritual. Or someone can be either one without the other.

Love this - sweet and simple, to the point. Jesus outlined our Liturgy and Sacraments for us as way to manifest, in the world, our spiritual union with Him. Of course one can be both spiritual and religious at the same time - they truly do go hand in hand, don't they?

The liturgy and the Sacraments are beautiful and wonderful - but Jesus said that the way we manifest to the world our "spiritual union" (discipleship) is by our Love. (John13:34-35)
