Need direction soon

I have been offered a very prestigious job with the same company I have worked with for five years. This is about an hour from DC and would involve relocating at my expense across the country from kc If i could pull it off it would get my foot in the door and could lead to even a better future.. Welll I am not all that and a bag of chips. I am 57, not as fast as I used to be,100 pounds overweight and with health problems. The excellent health insurance in this new job is an incentive. I could possibly move there and shortly thereafter get fired without knowing where to turn etc. Its not that I have a lot of connections here but II have been here since 1977. I am currently unemployed until my employer will call me back in January. If I go to DC that door closes. I can continue to wait and look for work somewhere else here but if I took the risk and if it turned out to be a winner this would be a dream job. I need prudence and I need direction and I need to be in a job that GOD can use the skills I have been given and not chasing windmills... I need your prayers and advice... and do not worry about hurting my feelings. thank you.

I vote you go for the job in DC.

I imagine this is a big step out of your comfort zone, but it could be a really good thing for you. And you'll never know unless you go for it.

Having health problems and being 100 lbs. overweight is an extra burden you have to deal with, but don't let that stop you from pushing ahead. You may actually succeed at the new job and even start to feel better.

You're 57. You've been offered an excellent job. Well, you called it "prestigious." Is there a decent salary? The health insurance will likely change with the "Affordable Health Care" Act going into effect over time, so although it's an incentive, don't count on it as your compensation for moving.

I would negotiate for the company to pay at least some of the moving costs or perhaps a housing allowance. It's expensive to live in that area of the country. Do you have a family? Even more reason to ask for some type of stipend for housing, or help with the cost of moving there.

Do you know for SURE that you will have a job in January if you stay where you are? That's still 5 more mos. of being unemployed. To my mind, every month that you stay jobless is a step down in pride and self-esteem. Which makes it harder to go out and get that dream job. Especially since many employers think at 57, they aren't going to get that many more good years out of you. (Sorry to be blunt, but it's true. You end up costing them more than you add to their bottom line.)

Don't "what if" yourself to death. One of my good friends told me that as she graduated from medical school, one of her professors told her class that, "From here on out, you will be making important decisions with inadequate information." And doesn't that just sum up life? We never have all the information we need, we just have to jump with what we have and pray like mad. And trust in God and the Holy Spirit, and our family and friends.

Take the job in DC. This is not rocket science.

57 is a tough age. Some at that age feel ready for the world and seem to hold up well.
Others, different story.

I think what is important is how you feel about yourself, whether you still feel alive and ready to tackle the job. Your conficence in yourself is all important.

Some jobs I was offered I did not feel confident in and refused, even tho they were better.
Most I felt confident to accept. It is the energy feel. Are you really up to it. And if things get tough will you have what it takes to make it happen.

The other point is to ask the Holy Spirit to help you in your decision. He of course knows which one you should accept. I had to make a decision between two companies and he guided me.

Say the litany of the saints. Only change the response from "pray for us" to "help me to decide".

I will remember you in my prayers as well.

You have my prayers. If you are certain to be recalled in January, stay where you are, and spend the next 4.5 months getting healthy. Eat right, exercise, take long walks, get refreshed and in shape. The quality, and longevity of the rest of your life are at stake.

A new job, and new city 1/2 way across the country are highly stressful life events, even for physically fit people. The tangible incentives need to be there, not promises, perhaps, and maybes.

If the prospects of a January recall are poor, you need to look into moving unless there are other viable local prospects. If there is any way to get more certainty regarding the recall, I would look into it, and see if the company really is committed to rehiring you, or just blowing smoke.

Take the job, but hold off on re-locating for a bit if you can. An hour commute isn't that bad.

God often places opportunities in front of us that are out of our comfort zone to help us grown and learn to trust His Divine Providence even more.

Look to our loving Heavenly Father and say "OK, Lord, I'm going to go for broke!"
