Longing to get back to God after having commited a mortal sin
Hello,
Okay I haven't done much posting on this forum, so I thought lets get a little more active here.
Starting with this thing that I was wondering.. here it is..
For some reason every time I struggling wether or not I would commit this or that sin that I'm thinking about doing at that moment I always kinda feel distant from God. I mean, I know He is there, but it just feels like He's kinda like watching from the sidelines and not really helping me fight it.
The strange thing is, that every time when I do fail in fighting these sins, and I did commit them, most of the times almost immediately afterwards I feel this, like... longing to get back to God, and to start praying again. Which is strange because before I commited a sin I was just also most of the times just doing my own thing, and I'm having a very big trouble with keeping up my prayerlife.
I just don't get it honestly, shouldn't I feel like running away in a sense from God after I have sinned, or at least feel far away from Him??! Don't get me wrong I'm happy I don't feel that. But its just weird that it seems to be the other way around.
I was just wondering whta your thoughts were about this..
Hope you understand what I tried to explain though, cause here where I'm writing it's late, so when it's late my English go's down the drain
Alright, thanks you all!

If you need to go to confession, then go! It's very vital to any Catholic. I'm also very scrupulous, you will be in my prayers.
Our Father...
Glory Be...
Hail Mary...
Amen. +

Re: Longing to get back to God after having commited a mortal sin
Yes I know I should go to confession, and I'm planning on going next Wednesday.
The only thing that bothers me about it, is that my regular confessor is out of town, which means I have to go to confession with this other priest. Whom I also want to ask to become my spiritual father.
I know, he probably has heard these sins like a million times, and won't remember them anymore.. but for some reason it feels kinda embarrasing, but on the other hand, I guess that's just something I have to face.. Cause when he becomes my spiritual father not only might he hear my confession, he also will discuss these "nice" *ahum* subjects with me..
I dunno.. I'm just rambling on here.. just wanted to get this out!

Re: Longing to get back to God after having commited a mortal sin
You probably do feel God being close because you've already committed the sin in your heart, before you actually carried it out.
To avoid sin, you must have a change in heart as to what you're actually doing.
This is because the desire is stronger than the reason not to commit the sin.
The only way the reason will become stronger than the desire is when your love for Jesus is enriched through being in his presence in prayer.
Remember when you pray, that the Holy Trinity Dwells within you and you are in the active relationship with Jesus. It is an act of love for Jesus that you go to him, and he never lets anyone down who sincerely comes to him in love. His love will touch you and transform your heart, so that you will not have a desire to commit the smallest of venial sins, never mind a mortal sin.
Keep the faith, Jesus love for you is stronger than all of your weaknesses.
In Christ
Jim

Re: Longing to get back to God after having commited a mortal sin
Here is an old fashioned piece of advice when it comes to sin and confession: When in doubt, go to confession as soon as you can. You never can know what is going to happen. You can be crossing the road and get hit by a truck you didn't see-or you could go to bed at night and wake up talking to St. Peter!
So, if you think you are in a state of sin, say a good Act of Contrition and find the nearest Catholic Church. Even though it may be outside of the scheduled time for confessions, go to the rectory and ask to see a priest. He will be happy to hear your convession.
However, please use some common sense. Unless you or someone close to you is actually at death's door, I wouldn't call the rectory or a priest at 2 A.M. !!!!!!!!

"I'm having a very big trouble with keeping up my prayerlife."
Bingo.
Not even Superman can make it without God.
Without him you nor I can do anything. Grace, grace, grace = prayer, prayer, prayer.
Grace is the power of God to do the hard things. Grace is invisible to us and therefore we don't really appreciate it. It is similar to education. Education is invisible. But if we think education is unimportant, try doing without it.
What your spiritual life is experiencing is anemia thru lack of grace, and that is the way grace becomes visible, when it isn't there.
When grace is there, we can somehow say "no" and carry on.
Why didn't giant Goliath kill the boy David instead of the reverse. Everyone was betting on Goliath. Yet what happened? God is what happened. The invisible God, who has invisible grace or power to change us into spiritual Davids with the odds on the other side.
Get a daily prayer schedule and keep it no matter what.
Get a Miraculous Medal too and wear it. Mary promised, great and abundant graces, for those who wear it and trust her to keep her promise. Just say, "Mary I'm wearing your gift, please give me that great grace you promised, for I am relying on you." She always keeps her promises.
Just a few thoughts.
